Steeling bags while up big is one thing but 3-0 down the dick with bases loaded isn’t the hitters fault. Pitch better. Being down by 7 in the 8th isn’t Tatis fault either. Fucking play better.

fuck those whiners. I’m a coach and teach my guys to play with heart, respect for the game and their opponents win or loose but to give the pitcher a 3-0 cock pitch just to be nice is fucking ridiculous.

You might as well just not even step in the box then.

    that’s your opinion
to me there’s a measure of honor in playing the game the right way
play hard, respect your teammates and coaches, your opponents, and the game itself
tatis did one of the three for himself, and defied what his manager wanted
you say you’re a coach, how would you feel if a player undermined you and just did what he wanted?

The only unwritten rule in my book is not to steal when up big, but with the added LATE IN THE GAME. In the new high scoring offensive game, I feel that rule only applies in the 7th or later when you are up by like 6 or more. Everything else is fair game

Even with their starting pitching not being all that great. Their young guys Gallen and Kelly have been awesome, but MadBum, Ray and Weaver have been an atrocity. It will be interesting to see how that impacts them down the road. Having 3 starters that aren't getting you even halfway decent starts could deplete that bullpen even in a short season.

If I gave him the take sign then we have a problem. But that’s not what we’re discussing. I Wouldn’t give the take sign in that situation. Let the kid stay hot, build confidence and rake... not take.

btw, in my previous post I stated all that you did regarding playing the game with respect. I just don’t think it’s wrong to hit the baseball.

If you respect your opponent more than you do the scoreboard you already lost.
In a series you have to have that mentality.
You want to crush their spirit.
You want to lift your mojo.
You want to give them bulletin board material.
So you can take their hearts out later when they can't do shit about it.

I didn't watch the clip, but as long as he didn't pimp it I don't have a problem either with him swinging. If' you're down big late, as a pitcher you'd rather they swing at your pitches than try to coax walks out of you - makes your job easier and more likely that the inning and game ends sooner.

Stealing and small ball are obvious tactics of the underdog or the team losing.
It's classless to try and manufacture runs when you are up big. By players or managers.
Hitting grand slams is not manufacturing.
It's not like premeditated run creation.
    It's not strategy.
    It's not coaching.
You have to get the ball over the plate.
And you have to try and hit the ball.
It's the most basic part of the game.
    Pure unadulterated joy.

I think at least 2 of those guys could bounce back and at least be average which would be good enough for them

Well, if it's all fair game now, then I would like to suggest that someone be allowed to taser umpires when they fuck up, which is often. Very often.
And something be done to Joe Torre equally as drastic, but I don't know what.
    Yet.

Fuck off. Hit that ball. What happens if the table is turned in the next inning and the opposition hits a grand slam? Then Padres would be crying.

We used to have peanuts to throw.
    That was our taser.
They should just let fans throw peanuts at them in between innings.

And these dudes getting more star power only helps their team get an identity.
Because while it's not always ideal the super star swagger identity is better than no identity.
Manny and Tatis have to be peacocks out there and draw the aggro away from their teammates.

Besides it's not like they doing it in a giants uniform.
They on the Padres. It's cute.
Like how the best baseball player in the world in our lifetime plays and will most likely end his career as an Anaheim angel.
    It's cute.
If they were giants I would say fuck them.
If they were As I would nod in approval.
Because that org is all spit and hustle.
    But the Padres... C'mon guys.
Let them have a little fun before we crush em.

but it is what we’re discussing
because if the manager said hit away it would be on him, not tatis

we obviously come from different eras and see the game differently
I hate interleague, the dh, and unbalanced scheduling
that said, i have to try to be open minded enough to realize things sometimes need to change
i was 100% against replay, and now i actually like it
feel the same about a pitch clock, maybe i’ll embrace that too eventually

i hear you on having a kid stay hot (no homo @huh?) and building his confidence
i just have a hard time letting go of the code that’s been ingrained in me for decades
especially when i think I’m just as right as you and others
that’s why i suggested agreeing to disagree
you’re not going to change my mind and i'm not going to try to change yours
    peace
