We still need at least two starting pitchers. I'd be 100x more excited about this if Ohtani was on the mound next year.

    • The Los Angeles Dodgers are still intrigued about the possibility of adding Japanese ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto despite signing two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani to a record-breaking contract on Saturday. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Dodgers are "still interested in" acquiring Yamamoto after handing Ohtani a 10-year, $700 million contract. Los Angeles reportedly ranks third on the list of potential suitors for the right-hander behind the New York Mets and the New York Yankees.

How in the world did the Angels not flip him for a bunch of prospects at the deadline? Lost him for nothing and he signed with the team they hate the most....nightmare for them.

Mookie Betts on the Ohtani signing: " No way he's as good as me"...

Dodgers would've given prospects but Arte was going to make sure he didn't go to LA. Oh, wait.

I get the benefit of deferring a large part of his salary, but is this another Bobby Bonilla deal when we're going to still be paying him when he's in depends?

Ok, so we got him now. I don't love it, and I hope it doesn't hamstring us, and I hope he's just as good post-surgery, and I hope there's still a way to finagle a Yamamoto signing... but it is what it is, and there's no disputing his talent, so I guess I'll have to embrace it.

But for the love of all that's good and pure, can we please go "all in" and get a real team manager, so that next October we're not once again the better team that got upset in the first round?

I mean, have they ever doled out an amount like this? There have been other LA FA obscenities in the past, but this makes them look insignificant.
This is absurd history making uber greed, almost desperation in some unconventional way.
We excoriated SD when they signed all those superstars, and scoffed insolently when they floundered like a goldfish jumped out of it's bowl to the floor.
Yet, we have set our own stage for a redux, Hollywood level. LaLa land style.
What new apocalypse has been potentially created by a team with Betts, Freeman and Ohtani in the lineup, only to be negated once again by the lack of acumen by the manager who pushes the team buttons out there on the field ?
Never underestimate the power of his toxicity...

Dodgers working on trade with Yankees to create spots on 40-man roster for Shohei Ohtani and Joe Kelly, sources tell @TheAthletic. Expectation is the Yankees will receive two 40-man players for a prospect not on their 40. Names not yet known.

    • According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Brewers are "now expected to retain" three-time All-Star and the 2021 Cy Young award winner Corbin Burnes rather than trading him.

The Dodgers/Yankees trade is already agreed upon, per @Joelsherman1. Just pending physicals. I could see any of Bryan Hudson, Jorbit Vivas, Victor Gonzalez, Gus Varland being moved — and maybe just maybe Austin Barnes. The Dodgers did protect Hunter Feduccia from Rule 5 draft.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, who agreed to sign Shohei Ohtani to the most lucrative contract in the history of American sports, don't appear done looking to add big names this offseason as, according to The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya, Tampa Bay right-hander Tyler Glasnow has “emerged as a prominent” trade target over the last week.

There is the suggestion that, with Ohtani now signed, the talks between the Dodgers and Rays could pick up, according to Ardaya. But LA is joined in its pursuit by the Cincinnati Reds, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Angles and at least one other ball club that has approached Tampa.

Glasnow, 30, is owed $25 million this year and will become a free agent next offseason. In 21 starts last season, he pitched to a 3.53 ERA (2.91 FIP) and 1.083 WHIP with 37 walks and 162 strikeouts. over 120 innings pitched after Tommy John surgery took most of his 2021 and 2022.

Ardaya also mentioned that there is “buzz” around centerfielder Michael A. Taylor, a potential target of the Mets to fill an outfield role, and former Yankee utility man Isiah Kiner-Falefa.

I thought that too until I remembered that they outbid Cohen by 615MM to buy the team in the first place. The good news (for them) is they turned around and gained a cool 4X+ with the media deal.

They'll make their dough in overseas marketing along with deferring the money. Hell, let them power bid for Yamamoto too. WGAF! If we're gonna be hated and envied like the Jankees were then they should do it with panache! :D
