"Shohei is recruiting Yamamoto to join the Dodgers. Hopefully everything lines up and it would be quite the offseason."

    speak of the idiot

"The Phillies would seem to be a natural fit for Josh Hader, but they have no interest. The Texas Rangers could badly use him, but say they don’t have the cash. It could leave Hader falling in the Dodgers’ lap. Prediction: Dodgers”
    — Bob Nightengale of USA Today

I hear what you're saying but then why go light on the signings last year and then structure Ohtani with so much deferral? Those two things combined with expired contracts the last couple of years give the Dodgers more spending power than they've had in a while - why not use it?

What's absurd to me is that they could have 1928 Murderer's Row as their lineup and my expectation would still be for a divisional round exit under Roberts.

Never seen a signing of a major acquisition ( or not so major, actually) where the field manager is not present on the stage ( or whatever you want to call it) at an introductory press conference.
    Can't remember one.
But at this point, possibly misremembering...
But conversely, if any of the "failure" innuendo is accurate, why keep resigning Robots with a team of ridiculously elite, expensive, should -absolutely-win ballplayers ?
To clarify : FAILURE is absolutely bang on, imo. Not a shred of doubt, for me anyway...

Imagine if Roberts got AIDS and died. We'd be in great shape.

    • Two-way star Shohei Ohtani may have been a Los Angeles Dodger for less than a week, but he's already helping out his new team. Ohtani helped recruit right-handed starter Tyler Glasnow to the Dodgers by sending him a video encouraging him to join the team, according to The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya and Ken Rosenthal. In the video, Ohtani expressed regret that he wouldn't be pitching alongside Glasnow next season as he sticks to designated hitting during his recovery from Tommy John surgery, according to Ardaya and Rosenthal. "But I want to hit some home runs for you," Ohtani told Glasnow, per Ardaya and Rosenthal.

    Tyler Glasnow in 2023:

    21 starts (career high)
    120 IP (career high)
    3.53 ERA
    2.91 FIP
    1.08 WHIP
    3.08 SIERA
    86 ERA-
    25.8 K-BB%
    51.2 GB%
    33.4 CSW%
    16.4 SwStr%

This is an ace when he’s on the field, and last year was his biggest workload so far in MLB

I've got a question. I read some interesting comments from Buster Posey this morning. He's been sitting in on recruiting meetings for the Giants with big free agents they've hoped to sign. He says that the current shit condition of the city of San Francisco is deterring a lot of players from wanting to play for the Giants - both the players and especially their wives don't feel safe. It's been years since the last time I was in L.A. - is it really that much better? I mean, I'm beyond disgusted the few times I have to go into SF, so I get it, but I was under impression that the libs had destroyed all the big Californian cities. By the way, Posey added that he Ohtani didn't say this explicitly, but his camp mentioned that he was put off by the crime and drugs in SF and that he definitely would not sign there for that reason.

Mark Feinsand says some in the industry believe Yamamoto is Dodgers number 1 target right now.

with milwaukee pulling back on burnes,
the high asking price on cease,
    snell being a boras client,
and yamamoto being far better than all three…
i’d say this was probably pretty accurate
