To say he is horrific is way too much, then to say beyond horrific? That is ridiculous. If that is what you think, there is no conversation to be had.
I know WAR isn't perfect, nor am I saying it is but out of every single player that has played this year, Matt Kemp ranks as the 617th best out of the total 623 players this year. It's bad and it is even worse when you think of what type of player he is. If you refuse to admit that, there is no conversation to be had.
Kemp ranking 617 out of 623 in ANY form of statistical measurement, even one as dicey as WAR, is not where Kemp belongs. His bum shoulder may not return to its powerful former self but we can each see that within May, Kemp's hand eye has returned and while he's become a powder puff hitter at least he's starting to make better contact. Drive the ball with any ferocity? Well not so much of that has been seen.. and the pitchers know it at least as well as we biased DSP fans
According to ESPN, he has a 0.3 WAR and according to Baseball Reference a -0.2. Blend the two and he at 0.1 WAR. Plus, I don't even know how the lower number -0.2, via BR's WAR, would be 617th out of 623.
WAR at this stage is hard to use for any comparisons sake because of the defensive metrics on it. Kemps WAR is so low because his defense is being graded as absolutely horendously shitty. His D is bad no doubt, but it's inflating his WAR to be really really bad. Now, his offense isn't all that great at the moment, but yeah his D is a big reason for his low WAR

with runners in scoring position kemp is hitting -- and slugging -- an anemic .179, with exactly ZERO extra base hits in 49 plate appearances singles are great if you're a table-setter like dee, punto or hairston put kemp is being paid to drive in runs so i'll reserve my excitement for when he starts driving balls in the gaps
Let me make it clear that I am NOT happy with Kemp's play, but to say he is beyond horrific is absurd.
Where did I say Kemp is a bad player? I said he has been awful this year. Glad u comprehended what I wrote. Kemp still one of the best players in baseball, just really bad right now. How is that debatable?
