Ask the opposing pitchers how they feel about that. I guarantee these pitchers see his singles as a victory. I know it appears as if I'm just looking for a reason to hate on him, but I'm not. He's still generally getting a lot of top hand and pulling off the ball. The lack of power is alarming, and continues to kill this team. Who knows how much better off we'd be if he was hitting for power. This team is decimated by the 27th worst SLG% in the league. Kemp only having 1 HR is just a killer. If Kershaw and Greinke didn't dominate we might be talking about getting swept as a a bi product of the power outage. Trying to string together all these walks and singles results in exactly what we are seeing. Runners LOB and very few runs crossing the plate. He needs to get it going for this team to truly excel. And although he's seemingly hitting better, he's not doing it in a fashion that is encouraging. These pitchers are not afraid of Matt Kemp. That's evident within each at bat. Kemp is battling his ass off just to decent enough wood on the bat for a single. None of his swings indicate he's close to driving the ball with authority. It's alarming and has to change. He's not doing what we need him to do.
He's definitely improved his game lately, and our 4 wins out of 6 games is a result of that. But it doesn't matter here at DSP...you are waisting your time. The village is full of hate and chagrin at this point. Obviously he isn't hitting HRs, and that's a problem, but I believe he'll get that going soon enough.
With an OPS of .687, horrific. Kemp is getting breaks as well with his weak ass singles that dribble past the 3rd baseman with his .405 BABIP for May. Kemp has still been awful, on the season fangraphs has him at -0.9 WAR. lol.
OPS of .687 and BABIP over .400 So, yeah no power yet, and whenever he makes contact its finding a hole seemingly. He's still striking out at over a 20% clip in this month so thats that, but the good contact is coming along better. He's gonna strike out over 20% anyways but if he starts making that contact go from just praying the grounders find some holes to some legit-hard contact than that BA won't be as empty.
It seems to me alot of Kemps hits lately are pretty solid line drives to all fields to go along with a bunch of hard grounders throughthe left side. He has had his share of "lucky" or "weak" hits, but everyone does. AGon gets one or two of those per game.
It's pretty obvious he's had a horrible year, it's what he's done lately that's something to be happy about. But again, most here on DSP focus on the down side, even if it's obvious he has improved a hell of alot....that was point above. BLF is not going to sway any of you that there's light at the end of the tunnel and some of us actually see it. The rest of you would rather swim in the shit negativity. Do you guys think the Rays would take Matt Kemp for James Loney? I think we would have to cover some of Kemp's salary, but that guy Loney can rake. We could put him in left field, and move Crawford to CF!
I would so not swim in the negativity but Matt Kemp is making it impossible not to. .687 OPS is not improving a hell of a lot, especially when you have a .405 BABIP. He's getting lucky right now. In May has it been more bearable yea, but a lot has to do with luck.
This is really hilarious since he is coming off shoulder surgery and even the National announcers knew hecwpuldvbe slow coming back and were impressed By his progress and in a month or two the homers would start Offer him as trade bait and watch the line form
I don't what shoulder surgery has anything to do here, simply stating Kemp has played beyond horrific (fact). That is all, I seriously doubt anybody thinks Kemp will not get better. Don't understand how shoulder surgery has any relevance in the recent discussion in this thread.
Lets say a guy gets amnesia and while he doesn't remember anything at all of his family he goes out of a bar and sees an extremely drunk girl. He then, completely sober, takes that drunk girl back to his house and fucks her, drunk girl turns out to be his sister. He has no clue what he has done but it is still incest, does the fact he had amnesia make it not incestuous?
