Bill Shaikin @BillShaikin 17m Kershaw has inflamed muscle in back, scratched from Sunday start in ESPN game vs #Padres. #Dodgers
Tim Brown @TBrownYahoo 28m I understand Kershaw fought Dodgers on decision to scratch him from start. So, again, extreme caution here.
Doesn't sound serious. I'm guessing just the one start. Keyword: guessing. It was originally suggested he wouldn't be starting ALL of these "openers" so maybe it's just a ploy to let him miss a start without questions.
anyone who's ever been on a plane 18+ hours knows it knocks the shit out of you even in first class. this is almost without a doubt the reason his back is fucked up.
Well, I hope it's all attributable to long plane rides, jet lag, time zone changes, kangaroo saliva, or whatever else can be thought of. It is just a typical LAD luck thing to give a player a load of money, and then the injury parade starts. I know that is not exactly a parade mind you with CK, but look at Greinke, Kemp and no one has even mentioned Puig lately. It's practically a Dodger legacy. Imagine if we started a season with all the guys we pay all this money to actually on the fucking roster? Woo-hoo. Of course, Billingsley and Beckett and that Mr. Cellophane guy, Carl Crawford...now Kershaw? I wonder if the Bugs Bunny man on base windup and the hurky jerky mechanics are part of it, finally. Lot of pitches from that young arm... He's no Lincecum, with Vinny's blown away stride in tow, and he's a horse, but why is it almost always so with us? Who knows what the truth ever is...but I do know this...he's not pitching a scheduled start. And whether it's a precautionary move or sluffed off to insignifigance, that can't be good. And the Dodgers do have a way historically of wearing a great arm down into mediocrity. A long history of it. Maybe someone in the FO realizes that, and also realizes he doesn't have to start every opening game....It's NOT imperative. And just maybe, all the DBB fans, can contemplate just what an effect 102 pitches (when not even neccessary) the first game out could do to a guy with a shortened ST. Not saying that's absolutely the reason....but, where there's smoke, there's fire. ...and never forget...DBB learned from the best...HoF manager, Joe Torre.
