leaving one loser franchise to join a worse one? i just don't see it yeah they've got a strong farm but it's still the cubs
Their loaded with prospects. And they have Theo, who may remind Maddon of Friedman. They may not be contenders, but they're building to win down the line, not right now. Maddon is a smart guy, so he know's what he's getting into with them.
Lol exactly. and i don't believe this report that Mark Walter is gonna make sure that Mattingly stays..if Walter was that big on Mattingly he wouldn't have let Mattingly go through what he went through last year with the whole silly lookin press conference and lame duck status. and then what happens if Mattingly continues to fail?..Walter get attached to that failure, right? yea, so i just can't believe that they give Friedman all that money and then pin Friedman down when it comes to getting the leader of his ballclub.
certainly wouldn't shock me if Maddon started talking to the Cubs..just for show and to give him to some high-dollar leverage with the LAD. first thing Friedman probably said to Maddon after he signed his deal is " Joe, this money is crazy..come get some. " Lol tampering, shmampering. how ya gonna prove it? Dodgers seems to be playing it just right so nobody can say anything about tampering. this " Maddon opting out " stuff was too quiet leading up to the announcement..zero rumors..people had to be actively working to keep it under wraps because it's basically word association between the 2 at this point.
Andrew Friedman knew of Maddons opt out, since he negotiated it (I don't know if Maddon even knew) If Friedman knew this and knew he could get Joe, I find it hard to believe he'd be this hard pressed on keeping Mattingly this last week. It wouldn't be hard for him to say "we will spend a few weeks analyzing the coaching staff" and if he wants to keep Don after this, just goes back to it. All in all, Joe is obviously an upgrade over Don. But in a year where Ned Yost is in the world series, is that really gonna make or break us? Maybe Friedman can make Don better. Maddon became who he is after Friedman came around. I'm not Dons biggest fan and I hate his in-game moves but you look around and realize a lot of managers who have had success do so even with those dummie moves. Maybe this is a long way of convincing myself it'll be okay. Like, I'm not gonna be sad if they upgrade Mattingly but at the same time I won't be mad if they don't for now. Speak to me in a year though...
Mark Walter said on day one that he's going to leave the baseball decisions to the baseball guys. And as far as I know, he's lived up to that. If you're Stan Kasten's guy, that means something. If you're Mark Walter's guy, it doesn't.
So Friedman has been preaching being open to players, staff, and the media about what the front office is thinking - so if I'm being honest it looks like we are out on Maddon. Seems bizarre to not be open to any move that improves the team. Maybe Friedman thought Joe was a shitty manager?
Yeah maybe he thinks his greatness is overplayed or that he was great cause he simply carried a message from Friedman, something maybe he believes he can replicate with Don
I don't think we're are getting Maddon, but we really still can't rule out the possibility of Friedman saying that Mattingly is his guy because he doesn't want MLB to come after us for tampering, I mean the guy is a genius. If Maddon doesn't get a job within the week, I'm going to be very suspicious. Friedman could let things calm down and then just out of nowhere hire him and can Donny.
I'd be happy with a fucking GM that knows a decent MRI clinic and diagnostic. Because for a long while now, they must have been going to Max's MRI Emporium...why it almost makes one suspect some shennanigans went on..
A clause? Are you kidding Doyer? What, are these guys Grade A finooks or like Chan and Eng, the Bunker Siamese twins? WTF? Simbiosis or what?
Sounds like a love clause. So Friedman has a love clause with a guy he supposedly loved working with for 9-years, but after two 20-minute conversations with Donnie he's willing to devote himself to Donnie forever. And he wants nothing to do with his Boo. This whole situation is weird.
