Well in the Dungeons and Dragons scale it is based on a 3-18. 3x 6 sided dice etermine the value. A 4 is almost as low as possible lol. NZ nds Howie Kendrick VERY VERY ugly it seems. Racist!
because using ANYTHING from Dingbats and Dungheads makes ANY rational sense in ANY conversation?? Sigh.. come on Fordie
Yup, I actually think a lot of sabermetric guys are starting to re-evaluate fielding independent pitching. Interested to see the trends over the next several years and what ultimately becomes the best indicator of a pitchers success. All roads might lead to ERA+. ? Basically just park adjusted earned run average. How many innings do you pitch, and how many runs do you give up, adjusted for environment. That's ultimately all that matters. FIP is kinda losing me a bit lately. Peripherals are great but there are major disparities between what guys SHOULD be doing and what they actually do. If you strike out guys and don't walk anybody, that's cool. But what does it matter if you end up giving up runs?
There needs to be a better evaluation of hard hit data. Walks, strikeouts, and GB/FB ratios tell an important part of the story but the missing factor is: what type of contact are you getting on your pitches? That's why it's pretty good to see the entire context with pitchers Wood doesn't have nasty enough stuff to get away with promising peripherals, IMO. The most promising thing from him so far is he has a very high GB rate last I checked, but again, it doesn't matter if the fly balls are all leaving the yard
Aye...what does it matter? Too go out and buy a guy like Wood (don't mean to pick on him, but he is a perfect example), and give him whatever kind of payday, and have a SABR friendly performance on one hand, and yet a flat out piss poor 5 innings- a loss- makes no sense to me. An L or W is king...all the rest is birdseed. It's like buying a car that has all kinds of positive Road & Track testing results, great gas mileage, rack and pinion steering, etc.,..and most of the time, breaks down when you take it out to drive. What good is it ?
i meant the action/movement on his pitches was good his fastball is relatively straight, but comes out of an unorthodox arm slot making it more deceptive but when yasmani is calling for something down and away and he leaves it up and down the middle...
Yes, sure. But no matter who it is on, they are king. It all breaks down to either one. And if a team scores a decent amount of runs, and their pitcher gives up a run an inning, with 3 big flys involved, it kinda not so much the team as it is him. Not saying 3 is great, but our runs given up is pathetic. But I get what you say
Sounds like a typical young pitcher learning how to pitch. I don't get to see much baseball anymore but the way you guys are describing him it sounds like he has the tools but not the command. Here's what concerns me, albeit a young season, to this point his WHIP, FIP, H9, BB9, and HR9 are the highest of his career. To me this says either his command is at an all time low, or he is injured. Either way, he is not pitching up to his ability-at least consistently anyway.
you're spot on he does have some tools but his command is lacking one thing to be wild, but wild in the zone is what's killing him of the stats you mentioned, the one that stood out to me was his whip hopefully he can turn it around problem is with that herky-jerky delivery it's probably even harder to define/fix release point/arm slot
You're a day late and dollar short, Methuselah. I was referencing a called third taken by Jacques last night, not disparaging someone's else opinion. Far be it from me to do such a thing.
Desperate Caitlyn, desperate. Must be tough for you with the NC law about the toilets and shit. Stiff upper lip, Cait...
Good to see you coming around about FIP which I've long viewed as runny bullshit. ERA and ERA+ are both good measures WHIP also tends to also be an accurate measure To the 'hard hit ball' perspective, I agree and I think we should value 'Average Exit Velocity' like they do for hitters I've long used 'back to back doubles' as a measure of when the toast is done Or 'back to back to back hits' if even one is a double or better BB9 and K9 or even K/BB tend to matter less than W/L % Again it's about the results Even if the pitcher is but one in nine players Stud fucking pitchers just plain get after it and drive in their own damned runs it need be Ain't that right Clayton??
