something fordie said made me stop and think so here's my rant... I agreewe should be scoring more runsbut there's a problem no one seems to have addressed...our starters giving up 1st inning runshere's what they've done the last 5 series... SD: (6 1st inning runs) scoring in the 1st in all 3 games AZ: (0 1st inning runs) in all 4 games < clearly an aberration CO: (5 1st inning runs) scoring in the 1st in 2/3 games MI: (3 1st inning runs) scoring in the 1st in 2/3 games SF: (6 1st inning runs) scoring in the 1st in all 3 games that's 20 1st inning runs in 16 games, the opposition scoring (in the 1st) in 10 of our last 16 gamesyou can't continually put an offense in a hole night after night and expect positive results -- especially one that's already strugglingmost (if not, all) of you have played the game at some level, and I think we can all agree -- it's a much different mindset when you're trailing earlybeing there night after night must get frustrating and monotonous, almost a "here we go again" thangso imagine my frustration, missing the first 10 minutes of last night's came, turning it on and seeing we're already down 2-0 with no one out and a runner (who would eventually score) on third.and yes I cursed harang, but not as much as I would later when he was trying to buntwho the fuck is in charge of teaching this pathetic fat fuck how to bunt?from as far back as little league coaches tell you to try and catch the ball with the bat, not jab at itfuck it, whatever...another rant... getting the minimum from the maximumat one point, from the bottom of the 2nd to the bottom of the 3rd...5 of our 7 batters singled!and we managed to score 1 run... 1 fucken run!are you fucken kidding me?!!!and yes we'd eventually score another run, but 2 runs with 6 of 8 hitters singling is almost worse alright, I'm done...
should have seen kemp jog after headleys hit. and then ramirez throw the ball to the backstop. oh almost forgot agons feeble toss of a ground ball in the general direction of first. this is a disease that has infested.
Idk, I don't think it matters it's the first. Say the offense got 3 runs early, then Harang gave them up in the 4th, it's still devastating to lose that lead and people would say that our pitching is lame cause it can't hold leads. But as Diablo said, the lazy D ain't helping and the offense needs to score in any inning and a lot. That's the bottom line, if we score 4-5 a game, we probably win most games. Our pitching has held up this team for so long already.
^ I disagree doyer always tougher to try and come from behind the last three nights they were in a hole before they even came to the plate night after night; it has to be getting a bit demoralizing
Im with Irish here... You can start the game in a hole... You need to give your team a real chance of putting preassure. Pitchers behave different with a lead. If you are up 3-0 you challenge the hitters, and if he hits a solo HR who cares, you still have 2 run lead. You give the other pitcher more room to play with the zone. Another issue is these fucks being unable to get deep into the game. Harang is a 5 inning pitcher, so is Blanton. It takes a toll on your bp. Anyway, the biggest blame still falls to the offense... Victorino, Adrian, Kemp, Hanley, Ethier sounds like an ASG lineup... No excuse for them to be this bad...
Kemp/A-Gon/HanRam/Ethier make what 70M+ a year Fuck if they are down a couple runs. It's inexcusable.
There's a reason why teams are so good when they score first. It's important. I was thinking the same thing about this Padre series. In a hole before the seats are even warm.
With all do respect, you are so off base on that. I've watched it and Kemp played that as perfect as possible. He did jog, but he got in perfect position to play it of the wall, which obviously was his intent from the get go. He wasn't going to catch it on the fly, and would've ended up running into the damn wall again and coming up empty. Kemp played it perfectly and made a nice throw to Hanley(who then fucked it up). Watch it here...totally uncatchable and played perfect! http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=24532983&c_id=mlb
Totally, TOTALLY agree with this. Scoring the first run is so important in so many facets that do not show up in numbers. It is huge and I have now been thinking the exact same thing for weeks now. We need to not give up runs early and score some more runs early. It is a total mental thing and allows the hitters to relax more and for the pitchers to be more aggressive.
At least we know that as soon as we fall behind 1-0 we can turn off the TV and know that we lost because our team lacks the mental toughness to win a game from behind. Show me a team who cannot win a game from behind and I'll show you a shitty team. Sorry guys there is no excuse for how shitty our offense is. imo at least.
I agree. I don't care if our opponent scores 5 runs in the first, they should be nervous and anxious for more. This offense should be feared, and double digit runs a couple times a week should not be out of the norm.
Difference is tonight we scored first, but in pathetic fashion. We got the first 2 guys on, and then made 3 consecutive outs with Gonzo, Kemp, and Hanley. Scutero blew a routine double play in the process as well. This team just cannot score runs the right way. And yes, there is a right way. I know 1 run = 1 run regardless, but knocking runs in by getting men on, moving them over, and then getting a besehit...foreign to this team. A single and then a gapper. Foreign. A HR with runners on base...foriegn. This team is horrible.
