On August 21, the Dodgers have as many wins as the 2014 WS Champion giants.

They also have as many or more wins than 6 of the 8 Dodger teams under Frank McCourt.

Believe it or not, he has actually been pretty good when he is out there. Before the walk thing crept back up again he was actually proving to be a very formidable rotation piece. For starters he has one of the lowest average exit velocities in MLB and the lowest % for balls squared up. Those numbers would play great in the 3 spot in a rotation and look even better in the 5th for us down the stretch. Getting him healthy through the end of the season could be important in another aspect as well. He's owed 11.5 Mil next season and a strong finish could allow the team to potentially move him, while both saving money and potentially getting a decent prospect in return(think 15-30ish).
This offseason is going to be really interesting, would guess that the FO pulls out all stops to move McCarthy and as much of both Kazmir and AGons contracts as possible. Would be nice if Kazmir just up and retired for health reasons to get him off of the 2017 payroll. Cutting even just 20 mil out of McCarthy, Kazmir and AGon could go a long way towards the team potentially locking up Darvish. If that were to happen, could easily see the team shipping out Ryu and his expiring contract. Still would have Kershaw, Hill, Wood, Maeda, Stewart, Urias, Oaks, Font and Buehler with Alvarez, Santana, Cooper and White being likely available late in the 2018 season

I don't dispute that he's capable of pitching well and that he could play an important role down the stretch.

However he lacks one major ability...........availability.

    - Alex Wood to 10 Day DL for SC joint inflammation. This is said to be more minor than the one that shelved him earlier in the season, which was even more minor than the one he had last season. Sounds like he could pitch through it, but the team is electing to get him healthy and ready to go for the playoffs. Which....
    - is why they're taking it soooo slow with Kershaw coming back from this thing. It looks like the FO is just trying to get these guys a few games under their belts so they can let them loose in the playoffs. Kershaw said he shoulda been back 2 weeks ago, but the FO has him locked down.
    - Brandon McCarthy will be starting his rehab this week.
-Kazmir is in AZ pitching in games.
    - Bellinger is pain free, but the swelling is still there. He's likely to be DL'd just since he's missed a few and the team can afford to let him get 100%. Probably not bad to give him a breather before the playoffs.

It's nerve-wracking from our end, but I get the sense that these are phantom-injuries for Wood and Darvish.

Trevor Oaks- #14 prospect according to MLB.com. Big sinkerball guy who was knocking on the door before an oblique injury sidelined him this year. #5 type in a rotation, but with a good defensive IF behind could be a dynamite innings eater.
Wilmer Font- Non-Prospect, but potential spot starter who has turned things on this year by striking out 1.3 batters an inning. A lot prospect folks just want to see him in the bigs after what he has done in the hitter friendly PCL. I would love to see him out of the pen down the stretch to see what he is capable of.
Dennis Santana- I touched on him in the MiLB section recently.
Morgan Cooper- Our second round pick this year. Viewed as a middle of the rotation starter, but could be ready sooner rather than later. Hasn't pitched this year yet with the club which I would not read into too much. The org is known for being ahead of the curve in arm strength development and at 6'5", they may see something they can unlock beyond the 92-94 he worked in college.
Mitchell White- My guess is that we would have been talking about him, just like we are about Buehler, had he not gotten hurt. No, he is not a future ace, but he has a cutter that I have seen some folks rate as high as ++. Got hurt after stumbling along for a few games, but is back now and since getting the call to AA he's worked to a 1.80 ERA in 20 innings, 20 K's and a .95 WHIP. There are some out there that think he is a legit #2 and this year was when he was supposed to show it, but the injury and a rough stretch in HiA before said injury inflated his numbers.
