It does apply to many teams but as you pointed out earlier, this thread about the dodgers so I ran with the envy you mentioned. I also fail to see how the steroid era affects the fact you haven't won a title in almost 30 years, do you claim the dodgers were the only clean team?

It's true that many many of our titles are from long ago but 2009 wasn't long ago and winning 5 since the dodgers last won one along with almost a dozen other teams, many with multiples IS the present condition. Fox's incompetance and McCourt with his thrifty ways are no longer the problem and with the dodgers current resources, there is no more excuse for being the bridesmaid again.......sorry, bridegroom

and well, since this thread is about money..let's look at the Yankees' recent signings. i'll just use Ellsbury's 154M for example. the Dodgers signed Ryu ( who would be the most reliable top end starter on the Yankee roster today), Puig ( who would be the Yankees' best everyday player today), and Brandon McCarthy ( the Yankees' best starter in the 2nd half of 2014) for a combined 126M. that's 3 key starters, including a superior everyday player, all for 28M less than an injury prone everyday guy in Ellsbury......................

well, Ethier's signing hasn't hindered the Dodgers a bit..added more big contracts thereafter through trade, signed Greinke, retained Kershaw on a monster deal. Ethier's set to be paid to go away just like Kemp was..would have been gone already had the Dodgers/Diamonbacks' trade not been vetoed by AZ's owner. only a matter of time. and the Dodgers still have 3 key starters for less than the price of Ellsbury. Lol

Financially Ethier hasn't hurt because the money is there. Unfortunately, being unwilling to cut him and unable to trade him, Joc will not have a roster spot because commitments to CC and Ethier will keep him in the minors. you can't buy a larger roster.

If you want to cherry pick contracts, the yankees have an entire productive bullpen for less than than Ethier to ride the pine.

As for Cano, the yankees learned after Arod, 10 year guaranteed contracts are fucking stupid. And no matter how good Kershaw is, he now gets a million dollars per start and can't get the dick out his mouth in the post season but no worries, I'm sure he will stay healthy through the 2020 season.
