This would be awesome as long as he keeps this hands off approach with the Kings that Phil Anschutz and Tim Leiweke have.

    Can't buy championships in hockey.

I don't know if I like this. I'm like a jealous kid that wants full attention from mommy and daddy. The Dodgers are better off as an only child right?

idk. Synergy could good for cementing L.A as a world class sports city. It always has been, but with the Dodger demise and nothing much more to write home about professionally for many years, it's pretty much been that place out west where the Lakers play.

He is putting together the anticipated sports and entertainment empire with star power names, teams and venues. Also doing it across international borders.

I dont think this would effect how they manage the dodgers. Each organization has its own revenue stream and management. They might make Kasten split time between several entities, but overall it shouldnt affect.

I have said that i do want LA to get an NFL team to make my sports fanhood easier. Obviously, Im a hardcore, diehard Dodgers fan and I also love the Lakers (funny that I never played baseball and I did played basketball, but I love the Dodgers over the Lakers). I havent been a huge NFL follower and when I watched it I was a Panthers fan. I could easily switch to whoever moves to LA and be an all LA fan. I dont care about hockey.

having just been to the area last night i am drooling over the thought. a football stadium would put the city over the top and bring even more investment. LA has needed this forever. an identity and a place for people to go. great restaurants and walking area. we won't be able to compete with NY or chicago and yes even SF in terms of great cities for the attractions. at least not in our lifetimes, but its on the way now.
hopefully the politicians can get the fuck out of the way.

I only lived in the city of LA for a few years, and then county for several. Now living in north OC but still reppin LA.

Yeah, L.A has always been so decentralized. Which is awesome, and it's exactly what they wanted to happen back in the 19th-early 20th century. It wasn't supposed to be a concrete jungle with shadows casting the streets from giant skyscrapers. Build out. Not up.

I think we have a nice skyline now. The tall buildings have always been there since I was born of course. But as you obviously would know, it was pretty much just city hall and not many high rises at all for a really long time. Then in the '80s there was a boom. I think it's important for big cities to have a downtown like we have now. It's about power.

But nobody ever really gave a shit about downtown though. AEG has really stepped in to try and change that. With Staples Center and LA Live, and now hopefully Farmers Field. The Convention Center will also be put into top tier status, which is really important too in putting DTLA on the map.

I think LA is, and has always been a desired destination. Just not centralized like Chicago and NY. L.A is home to the movie, television, and music recording industry, celebrities, it's a great sports town, miles of beaches, and is painted as glamorous in pop culture. It's just kind of all over the place. Downtown isn't our city. All those things I listed...they mean Hollywood, Studio City, Bel-Air, Beverly Hills*, Malibu*, Venice, Santa Monica*, Burbank*...or for our rap fans, Watts, Compton*, Long Beach*, etc.

We are also an automobile culture. I wake up in Cypress. Go to school in Santa Ana. Work in Norwalk. And then hit up LA city for the game. Then I drive back home. That's our lifestyle. We don't take the subway into Manhattan and walk lively streets really. Besides poor people that is. I think AEG is trying to create a public transit, walkable district. L.A is a world class city without a center. I think AEG is turning that around.

    Imagine this:

I know what you're saying, but it'll never be that. LA is the MOST uniquely built and laid-out city in the world. There will never be a city-center type place, there just won't. The main reason is the massive breadth of the city and the lack of public transportation (which the oil/energy and car companies will never allow to be built fully).

well that area is going to be the center of attention for tourists no question. of course there are other parts to the city but this is going to be the epicenter. just the concentration of decent restaurants and bars will see to that. a ritz carlton doesn't just show up anywhere.
not quite sure how you can't see that. the part about public transportation is valid. that ship has already sailed for the exact reasons you stated. still this is going to be the main draw. i'm just happy people will have the ability to walk the streets and feel reasonably safe taking in the area. its going to continue to spread out and grow. santa monica and hollywood will always be draws but this is where tourists with money will stay.

There is an increase of vacant mid rises turning into loft residences in DTLA as well. It's becoming a desirable place to live.

i noticed that as well. ate at the palm and walked to staples. i noticed a lot of apartment/loft type buildings. the place is taking on a life of its own. when hollywood started its facelift people thought it might go this direction. some nice areas around hollywood/vine but nothing like this. really excited to see it. looks like all the players are there.

It's cool. Wasn't long ago at all DTLA was a ghost town of office buildings and parking lots. Hollywood was a complete toilet. Cool things are happening, and depending on what path my life takes me on, and what financial situation I end up being in down the road, LA is becoming a place I wouldn't mind calling home, like I did briefly when I was a young tyke.

I wonder how people would feel about a Dodger Stadium semi-replica in Downtown L.A. I used to barf at the thought of not coming to the Ravine for games. And it still makes my stomach turn a bit. But it might not be such a horrible thing. I'm not for it, but I am not as against it as I used to be.

Not quite sure how I see what DT not being the epicenter? That's easy because it's not and won't be. The city is spread. Hollywood and BH will always be the epicenter for tourism simply because they are household names, period

agree to disagree but there is nothing like the scene around staples in hollywood or bh. thats going to be our bright lights big city.
