Eh Kemp dos great things for us, not his fault the rest of the team besides Kershaw blew while he was doing it (because McCheap). Kemp was really booed?
Tickets for all 3 Giants games next week are starting at 10 dollars and they're doing giveaways. It's the biggest series of the year and the stadium will be lifeless and 70 percent full, tops. Embarassing.
Maybe being in 1st might change those numbers. Dodger stadium has the largest capacity of any stadium. Believe it or not, Oakland is #2 and it is usually a ghost town. Even Yankee stadium has had trouble filling the seats at #3. And this is NY we're talking about.
A lot of the empty seats has to do with season ticket holders. They've reserved a bunch of premium seats for high prices ticket buyers. And they have also actively encouraged those ticket holders not to resell those tickets to average fans. They literally said that those ticket holders may not want to sit next to average fans who aren't used to the star treatment in those seats who got their tickets on the resale market. I remember John Oliver bought some of those tickets and gave them to those who sent pictures of themselves in the most inappropriate attire for those seats.
It's not expensive to go to a Dodger game with a family of 4. You can argue it's TOO cheap and easy to get into a Dodger game. Fans take it for granted and we get lackluster support. I don't care if we lead the league in paid attendance. I see people come, grab a bobblehead and leave. "Fans" these days prefer smaller, more intimate ballparks in a downtown setting with public transit and places to eat and drink before or after a game. Easy ingress/egress and integrated (racist) with the community. You can easily pack the house with 35-42k and have a playoff type atmosphere on a nightly basis. Dodger stadium is gorgeous and unique. The view, the 60s architecture, hexagon boards, palm trees, multi color seating, etc. But it's falling out of favor with the modern fan. Every time I go to a game, a nearby fan says, "man, not a very good crowd tonight". You can get 40 thousand in there on a Wednesday and people think it's empty. I hate it. So much. That camera angle on pick offs to 1B where you see the big yellow pavilion half empty...cringeworthy. Why do the Cubs, Red Sox, Giants, etc get so much credit for their attendance? Why is their atmosphere so much better than ours? It's the size and location of our stadium. The Giants sell out their weekday afternoon games. We draw 25k. We don't even sell games out on the weekends or in the summer months. I really do think we have a problem with attendance and culture at our stadium. Something has got to change. The Dodgers are NOT a hot ticket.
FYI, the description I made was about the new Yankee Stadium, not Dodger Stadium. Dodger Stadium and LA fans have other issues.
I don't claim to know the psychology of Dodger fans by any stretch of the imagination...I always thought the "Wave" being performed when the team was down, was really " we are only here for a good time...if we lose, so what- we did the Wave", was as jerkoff as humanly possible. But it takes all kinds to pack the house. But I can imagine if a guy comes back to a city where he won a championship, there is something very special about that player, even a Vogelsong. We don't know, because we don't win championships any more...we have nothing to hang our emotions on as far as that goes... I loved Kemp when he was a LAD; idk why he was so hated. But WS or not, I think if CK ever left (gasp!), and came back, he would be cheered for a long time, just because of his greatness with us. Like with Chase, how many babies were born in LA during CK's time with the Dodgers named their sons Clayton?
1st place and number 1 in attendance. If the worst thing that happens to us is they show some empty seats, it’s going to be a great season.
I think I remember that, too. The guy was an awesome ballplayer, and I always gave him credit from going from a dodgey OF to a GG winner...that took hard work, imo. But he is laughed at now. Maybe I'm wrong. Damn Rhianna.
