He isn't taking away ABs from someone worth a damn, so that isn't a concern to me.

We're just so used to people disappointing us, we're just protecting ourselves early.

Anything that's not positive isn't hatred.

Bottom line is he's in a sharp regression, and instead of showing up to camp and working with the Dodgers he's off DHing for the Dominican. I don't care about his national pride. You work for the Dodgers you prick (that may be unpopular but idc). He's netorious for being a bit of a pain. We are counting heavily on him to play SS and hit well. There is concern there.

And this is just my opinion. It's not right or wrong. You think he's gonna mash and i respect your opinion. but judging by his last 3 seasons and his plate selection in his winter games...along with terrible defensee...I'm concerned with Hanley and it appears most people are as well.

I think the Hanely bashing is a bit much because a poor HanRam(like the last couple seasons) is better than any of our options at SS and still better than half of baseball's.

He is already looking to be the "hated" Dodger on this forum for 2014. A poor attitude and bad stats will ensure it, and rightfully so. Until then i'll keep my expectations low and hope I'll be pleasantly suprised.

If Hanley works on his plate discipline, he'll be that much closer to getting back to what he once was. He just gives too many at bats away to be honest. I'm not that concerned with defense, because I'm expecting a solid offensive year from HanRam.

But yes it also irritates me that he'd rather be third/fourth string for the Dominican than fix his game by being in camp with us. You're not fixing anything by playing more games if you're still making the same mistakes. Dude needs some discipline.

    to be fair
hanley produced pretty well for us offensively last year
if you project his 64 games with us to a full season...

i think most of us would take that in 2013...

It would obviously be better for the Dodgers for Hanley to be in camp with his teammates, but I understand the patriotic pride that runs strong in a lot of other countries.

I'd sacrifice 5-10 HRs for less Ks and a .340-.360 OBP. The power is still going to be there for him, but he shouldn't be trying to hit a HR each AB like he did last year.

Hanley showed great power with us; like I said though, I'd like to see him be more selective and get on base more.

We'll see what happens. I think McGwire will definitely help him out, but I hate how I keep using the McGwire card because a hitting coach can only do so much.

I don't think it's about being "team first", but the guy was the best SS in the game like 3 years ago. Now, ESPN and others are putting him around 10th.

Either way, it's about making adjustments that will get you back to where you succeeded. Not swinging for the fence at everything. He literally swings at anything. I don't buy that he just forgot how to hit fundamentally, so I'm expecting a big year even though him with Crawford are huge X factors.

I expect him to be between a .750-.800 OPS. The fluctuation will be the OBP, the SLG is probably easier to peg.

    i do
hitting the ball the other way
    moving guys over
    giving yourself up
for the good of the team
i hate gibson now but i remember a great quote from him in '88... "I'll take an 0-for-5 and a win over a 3-for-5 day and a loss any day"

    totally agree
plate discipline (good or bad) will be a huge factor...

We've got three hitters in our lineup that can "give themselves up" (Cruz and the Ellis'). The rest are paid to produce at an elite level. The only thing that may give Hanley the "not team first" label IMO, is his inability to walk and get on base. Definitely needs improvement.

Hanley drops bizombs to the RF pavilion. He has a lot of natural opposite field power. He needs to keep that approach. I'm curious to see his hit chart in his best season and see where his strengths were as far as what he was swinging at, where he hit the ball most frequently, how much he was getting on base when he hit the ball on the ground/air/line, etc.
