not a postseason item per se, but since i closed the other thread :irish:

    what a douchey move
typical colorado -- the same organization that once hung a "wild card winner" banner
props to lemahieu for hitting .348
mostly due to coors, but he still hit .301 on the road
but sitting out to protect your lead is the stuff of cowards
    and fuck you weiss
don't bullshit us by saying you would have let them battle it out if murphy had been playing
you would have done whatever it took to protect lemahieu regardless
you should be ashamed of yourself
especially on the same weekend mlb network aired a special about ted williams not sitting to protect his .400 average
    and to lemahieu...
    glad you're "relieved"
but you didn't win the batting title... you just didn't lose it
    big difference
btw you should start booking annual vacations in october
you'll have plenty of free time

DJ LeMahieu wins NL batting title after sitting weekend out
    ESPN.com news services — 4 hours ago

Colorado Rockies second baseman DJ LeMahieu won the National League batting title with a .348 average after sitting out both Saturday and Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers.

LeMahieu also sat out Wednesday and Thursday at San Francisco. He went 0-for-2 on Friday in the Rockies' 4-1 win over the Brewers and left the game in the fourth inning with a .348 average, one point better than that of Washington Nationals second baseman Daniel Murphy, who has been sidelined with a strained buttocks.

"Certainly one of the best storylines of this season, especially when you take into account the guy, the type of guy DJ is and how hard he's worked to achieve that,'' Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. "That's no small achievement to win a batting title in this league.''

Weiss said Friday that if Murphy were healthy, he would have let LeMahieu play and let the two players contest the batting title on the field.

"It's a unique situation because Murphy's injured, he's not playing," Weiss said. "If he's playing, they could fight it out. I don't want DJ to lose a batting title that way [with Murphy not playing], so I'm going to pay attention to the math. My philosophy, whether you like it or not, is I'm going to take care of the guys who take care of our team. DJ's one of those guys that takes care of our team."

Murphy last played in the field on Sept. 17. He appeared as a pinch hitter on Sunday but was 0-for-1 to keep his average at .347.

LeMahieu told reporters before Sunday's game that he understands Weiss' thinking, but it has been a difficult week to sit on the bench.

"It hasn't been a very fun week," he said, according to the Denver Post.

Following the game, he told reporters it was "a relief" to win the batting crown.

Idk...la Mahieu was a fine hitter, and sitting out the last days or so is not indigenous to only Co. It's been done before, so maybe if a team that struggles like CO every year wants to get something, even an individual award, it's understandable.
Maybe it is pussy, but I think we were pussy, too, in 5 of the last 6 games. Half stepping to preserve possible injury or over use, whatever, becomes all possibly moot if you go into the playoffs as flat and flaccid as we certainly look and register right now...and with this time off to boot.
I can see being cautious, sure, but we showed something else other than Dave's caution in these last two series, imo. Something else indeed.

That's extremely retarded. "It's a unique situation because Murphy's injured, he's not playing," The fuck does that have to do with anything? It's questionable enough that Colorado players are allowed to win the batting title in the first place. 2 ABs in the final 5 games just to win an individual award? Shaking my head over here.

Well, whatever it is, (and if it doesn't mean anything, why so much written about it?), I would like to have Weiss' nose full of quarters.

Unrelated (or maybe related?) Walt Weiss has just stepped down as the Rockies manager. So the last major thing he did as manager was sit his star second-baseman 4 out of the last 5 games so he could win the batting title. He should make sure to put that on his resumé.

    not a fan of weiss
but would be pretty tough for anyone to manage in colorado
pitchers struggle there and then organization has a habit of trading their best players (holliday, tulo)
cargo is probably next, with blackmon and lemahieu not far behind
arenado probably wishing they'd trade him
why would anyone even want to play there, except to get paid and pad stats?
i hate domes but that's what they need there
better yet, just move somewhere else
i'm convinced the only person in colorado with any baseball sense/knowledge is our own @ColoradoKidWitGame
everyone else there just smokes weed and eats bull nads

If I was a fringe star hitter, 28 years old and a FA for the first time, I would circle Colorado as a place I'd like to play for 2-3 years. I thought everyone would have caught onto it 2 decades ago, but there are still people who think the stats there are legit. I know, I know "they use a humidor now" (whatever the fuck that is), but it doesn't change the fact that it's a huge-ass field where outfielders have to play 10-15 ft further back than other stadiums.

As far as a dome, I don't think that changes the air pressure at all, plus the weather in Denver is actually great. Baseball should be played outside whenever possible. A dome in Denver would be wrong.

I think the Rockies managers job is the worst managers job in MLB at the moment.

Shitty ballpark to have to manage at and the front office doesn't do anything with the team. They've been stuck in the mud for a long time now, they don't go for a full rebuild and then don't add enough to compete. It's a division with talent/money heavyweights in the Dodgers/Giants, and the Padres and DBacks at least have a talented core with somewhat of a vision.

The Rockies just don't do anything and are fine with being average and boring. It's a horrible job to manage

    agreed
which is why i said i hate domes
i believe the air pressure could be changed based on the circulation/temperatures
but i'm no expert and have no idea if it would be significant or not

Weiss is a fucking terrible manager and I would bet that having DJ not play was entirely his move. I know a lot of people here that are excited he is gone.

Not surprising, Karabell giving us the most love. He's one of the fantasy number crunchers. Honestly, I like these predictions more than the preseason, out on a limb, predictions. I really hope we get the chance to face Chicago, I think that would be an amazing series.

The article seemed to suggest it was Weiss' call, and not DJs.

Reasonable to imagine Weiss taking the heat off the player so LeMahieu could save face

On second look, this could be true. Says DJ felt "relief" after winning the batting title. Relief?
