It would be a shame to a degree, but if he ends up being Aroldis Chapman without the nut-job stuff I'll be good w/that if the MLB rotation isn't suffering.
I mean are we really gonna be totally crushed if CK/Otani/Urias/Buehler/Wood is the starting 5 by the middle of next season?
Or sub out Wood for Imani or Mitch White or Dustin May another year down the line from that point...
I mean the high quality spec arms seem to be endless..one of the reasons we've seen JDL/Cotton/Holmes/Montas/DeJong get moved out
Not damning Alvarez at all, he has a chance, just saying if he's not a starter he could prove to be pretty valuable in other ways w/ a 99-100mph heater in his back pocket, even w/the contract he signed

No reason to believe he won't be a starter at this point after his showing last year

Other than the fact that his secondary offerings are inconsistent
Buehler is out in front as far as the starter's look goes, has the secondary offerings looking sharp

    Julio Urias’ contract renewed
by Matthew Moreno | Dodger Blue — 42 minutes ago

On Monday the Los Angeles Dodgers reportedly renewed the contracts of Joc Pederson and Corey Seager, with both receiving a raise for the 2017 season. Dating back multiple years, Pederson and Seager headlined the organization’s current wave of prospects.

Once part of that was Julio Urias, though he’s now graduated from prospect to knocking on the doorstep of MLB stardom. Urias figures to factor into the Dodgers’ success this season but the club is still determining how to best manage his workload.

Prior to reaching that point, the Dodgers also renewed Urias’ contract, according to J.P. Hoornstra of the Southern California News Group:

"Two other rookies had their contracts renewed this week: shortstop Corey Seager for $575,000 and pitcher Julio Urias for $540,000 if he’s in the majors."

Urias earned $507,500 last season. He made his MLB debut in May and proceeded to appear in 18 games for the Dodgers, making 15 starts. Including the postseason and time spent with Triple-A Oklahoma City, Urias threw a career-high 127.2 innings pitched.

His previous career high was 87.2 innings, set in 2014 with High-A Rancho Cucamonga. While it’s unclear where Urias may begin the season, moving the left-hander to the bullpen as a means of capping his innings is an unlikely scenario.

Urias has pitched in three Cactus League games this year, two of which were starts, and is 1-0 with a 1.83 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and seven strikeouts in five innings.

The Rockies have now lost their starting 1B and C on back to back days from HBP's. Rough start to the year,

Adrian Gonzalez critical of players who choose not to play in WBC
by Daniel Starkand | Dodger Blue — 37 minutes ago

The Los Angeles Dodgers had a strong presence when rosters for the 2017 World Baseball Classic, with Ike Davis, Adrian Gonzalez, Kiké Hernandez, Sergio Romo, Rob Segedin and Alex Verdugo named among the participants. Gonzalez, Romo and Verdugo were teammates on Team Mexico.

Others in the Dodgers organization, such as Kenley Jansen, Clayton Kershaw and Corey Seager had the opportunity to compete for their countries did not, whether it be for their own reasons or the organization’s wishes. Jansen did acknowledge he may join the Netherlands should they reach the Championship Round at Dodger Stadium.

Players not participating in the international tournament is something that Gonzalez, who has played for Mexico in every WBC throughout his career, doesn’t quite understand, according to Doug Padilla of ESPN:

“I just don’t see why you wouldn’t want to represent your country. I don’t get that part of it,” Gonzalez says. “You can be half-assing it in spring training, or you can be playing meaningful games. I guess people just enjoy their routine and comfort of not having to compete at that time of the year, so they don’t do it. But I don’t see why you wouldn’t want to do it.”

Mexico, who is managed by Gonzalez’s older brother Edgar Gonzalez, lost their two of their three WBC pool games, and were subjects of a bit of controversy Sunday night as after beating Venezuela, 11-9, believed they had advanced to a play-in game against Italy on Monday.

But after much debate, MLB ruled it was Venezuela slated to face Italy in the one-game playoff. Gonzalez, and others associated with Team Mexico, understandably were angered by the decision. Gonzalez, who had limited preparation for the WBC as he sat at the beginning of Spring Training with tennis elbow, went 1-for-12 in the tournament.

As for Jansen potentially being added from the designated pitcher pool, Netherlands advanced and is 2-1 in Pool E play.

You don't play for your country, either bud.

Born in America. Went to school in America. Made all your money in America. Shut up. Your team sucks. Luis Cruz? Seriously?

    Bellinger is coming, bkitch.

That very attitude, when taken to the assimilation level, is a huge problem in America.
And multi- millionaires, like Agon, iconic to young Mexicans, just swells that attitude and creates them.

This is why Agon seems to piss me off about every other year. Shut up and play. Be a leader. Don't watch meaningful shit go by but bitch about something that will not effect the Dodgers.

    Aren't you a Limey?
Mexico is the 'old' country. Its still your country though.
There is no reason to be romantic about this 'land' if you did not grow up with those sentiments.
This count be your nation, but it does not necessarily mean its your land.
I can very much see a guy like Adrian defending his American nation in a war, but representing his Mexican land in an exhibition tournament.
This is not a huge problem for america.
Its not even a problem at all. Just imagined.

To you it's romance, because you serialize every narrative. Follow your creative dream I say.
But the real deal, not in the RubeWorld, is that it is not " romantic"...That's your spin...It's practical and would be less polarizing. It's not as cut and dried as you make it at all, and to the overall detriment to harmony within our society.
    Simple, actually.
And your gauge of " not a real problem in America" is a blinders on, look the other way rejection of a growing isolationist " get our ethnic rights" attitude, that you for one, consider an aggravation, correct? Or have in the past, anyway.
    Slavery is freedom.

I think the real take away is that Adrian likes the WBC. That's all.

Really no need for him to be critical, there are a million good reasons not to participate. If he feels like the WBC is a good way for him to prepare for the season, then more power to him - but ultimately the MLB season should be the #1 priority.
