If the Dodgers could acquire one player at the deadline, who would you prefer?

  1. Machado

    43.5%
  2. Front line starter (degrom, thor, et al)

    56.5%

Yeah, the Hill hate on here is weird to me. Guy has been nails for us in the playoffs(Not his fault that Roberts pulls him so early every game) and is a notorious slow starter to every season. If he were the only pitcher in the league to have blister issues right now then I'd be annoyed, but since it is a legit issue league wide, especially for pitchers that rely on the curve, I will give him the benefit of the doubt.

As for Barnes, the broadcast mentioned the other night that he admitted that he was trying too hard to win the job from Yaz. He's been totally miserable at the plate since the Chicago series and it is probably about time for him to go to AAA and get some regular AB's.

    don't hate hill at all
    quite the opposite in fact
i slammed roberts for pulling him too early (twice iirc) in the post
yet he left darvish out there to (essentially) lose the ws
hindsight but still -- every one of us knew darvish had nada
that said, i still say the hill talk is cheap -- or at the very least, premature in this case

    barnes, yeah...
just overthinking shit and not just playing the game

What I don’t get is Rizzo did something worse a few weeks ago, actually went off line the hooked the catcher’s leg with his cleats and actually injured the guy, but no suspension there.

I guess Torre has a soft spot for Cubs.

Still listening to the Stern show?

It's a hard listen for me these days. Never used to miss a show. It's really fallen off the earth.

Hill is my idol in a way...at this point in my life ( lazy slug point)...I think he is the sultan of sloth...it's not like his finger is a problem recently or just now...it goes on and has gone on over and over again. Shit is old, man.
Yeah, start earning some of those millions you're collecting...win a few...last more than 5 innings a couple of times. Donate some of your long, undeserved dust to the Chronic Blister Foundation. Do fucking something. Waiting..
Tired of his played out DL after DL LAD existence.
Rise on up, O lucky man...

Kershaw threw an extended bullpen session, about 55 pitches, watched by Friedman, Roberts and Zaidi. That included one up-and-down to simulate an inning break, so the back seems healed.
    -------------------
Maybe the next step is a rehab start? Hopefully we'll hear something about his stuff later today.

Man, Maeda came back on Wednesday, Hill due back Tuesday and now potentially Kershaw not long after that. Gonna miss the Stripling, Wood and Ferguson 3-man rotation that fueled our ascent back into relativity.

If by some miracle these guys can stay healthy, maybe they can get Stripling some much needed rest, not really realistic to expect him to throw ~175 innings and potentially make a few postseason starts.

    - Sounds like there will be a discussion between the FO, Roberts and Kershaw later today to decide whether he is going to throw a sim game or get a rehab start. Honestly, he needs a sim game and then a rehab start. Stop pushing him back into action.

    - No update on Buehler (probably the team is in no rush to bring him back to protect his innings).

    - Chase Utley will also be returning for the Cubs series

    - Ryu is now partaking in defensive drills, so he should be pretty close to getting back into game action.

Yeah, I have been thinking the same thing, while Wood needs to go on the DL too and get right. Stripling can probably go 130-150 innings, but that would be REALLY pushing it. I honestly do not want him going to the All Star game so that he can rest over that stretch.

Well remember Urias is close to returning. I wonder if MGT is hoping Wood can hold out till then.

Agree completely on Kershaw, be patient. As far as Buehler, i've looked at the schedule and tried to figure when they might bring him back to finish the season and have enough innings to make 2-3 potential postseason starts, and it seems like close to the All-Star Break would make sense, it would leave him with about 14 regular season starts (say ~80 innings), that would put him at ~140 for the season.

    Just random thoughts.

I honestly would not be shocked if the team elected to leave Urias in the minors until September. He probably needs to climb the ladder slowly back so that he can quality innings under his belt. 2-3 starts in Rancho, 2-3 in Tulsa and at minimum 3-4 starts in OKC. He needs to show that he is 100% ready for the bigs before returning. His command/control has been less than stellar since being called up and it would be NICE if the club could block him a bit with Kershaw, Hill, Wood, Ryu, Maeda, Buehler and Stripling for as long as possible.

Yeah, would not be shocked if they let his situation play out until around the ASB with the other guys coming back. As frustrating as it is to watch, maybe give Ferguson a couple more starts and see if he can grow from the experience and then bring up reinforcements for the stretch run.
