If the Dodgers could acquire one player at the deadline, who would you prefer?

  1. Machado

    43.5%
  2. Front line starter (degrom, thor, et al)

    56.5%

    This is great.
Old Ned is gonna pave the way for the Dodgers to get some of those good Oriole relievers and Mannywood 2.

Slide or avoid is Little League shit... pussification of our game at its finest... this coming from a catcher who welcomed contact in my playing days!

I was pretty disappointed in him after listening to the interview as he came off as uneducated in regards to the team he covers(Folks that follow closely that is, others will just repeat his ignorance). I actually stopped following him during the NBA playoffs since all he did was pick fights with people about the difference between MJ and LBJ. It was just annoying and trivial, but he came out and admitted on the show that he did it just to ruffle peoples feathers since he would see how worked up it got people. He came out on air as a legit online troll. You could tell Casey Stern was embarrassed that he was talking like that. Hairston had been making a good point about the subject, then he admitted to trolling and it was like... ehhhh.

Anyway, back to the team thing. So they are talking about how the Dodgers have come out of this funk and now looking like the team from last year. They ask him about moves the team may make to improve at the deadline and he says something that is probably pretty true. He mentions that for now, starting pitching is probably not a concern with Hill being close to coming back, Ryu looking better than expected and that Kershaw is progressing better than anyone expected. He did say that he thought it could be a while before we see Buehler again, so that has me believing that the team really is going to use this to make sure he comes back at 100% and conserve his innings in the process. Then he mentioned that Maeda was probably 2-3 weeks from being back.... HE WAS LITERALLY THE ANNOUNCED STARTER FOR THE NIGHT. We had known this for over 24 hours and it was not like he misspoke, he totally biffed on the question as he said that Hill was going to be the first guy back. It actually caused me to go to my phone and check to see if something had happened. There was also no mention of Urias.

In the end he says that the club won't do much, but he sees the Dodgers getting Jose Abreu and finally landing Brian Dozier . In what world does this make any sense? Would that be a fun scenario? You bet, but how does that make any sense at this point? We have two first baseman(a third mashing in AAA), so one is starting to play second and a very very full OF with nowhere to put the other one if they acquired just one of the two. This interview was just insanely stupid. Would I love both those guys on the club? Hell yes. Does it make any sense with our current salary restrictions and a farm with arguably 3 major league ready prospects just sitting there blocked, waiting for an opportunity? The bullpen is probably the FO's rightful only focus at this point and he didn't even mention it. He came off to me as a guy who is only out there collecting a paycheck and not really putting in the work to do this thing long term.

Not that I believe Hairston because I don't, but I will say this on behalf of Abreu....Max Muncy, Matt Kemp, Ed Rios, Cody Bellinger, etc. wouldn't stop me from acquiring Jose Abreu. The fiscal side of things, and I'm not 110% sure what's what as far as where it'd leave LAD in regards to the lux tax, too lazy to look into it right now, but that could surely stop me..and then my belief that the FO should temper their market approach at the deadline this season could stop me as well. But the players mentioned and worrying about how to fit everybody in wouldn't stop me. You say " nowhere to put " guys and guys are blocked..how about putting them on other teams? Business of baseball. We talked about the chances of Kemp actually building trade value before the season for a reason..because on the small chance that he'd rake this season ( done, miraculously), getting out from under him before he gets hurt or falls back to Earth would be pretty reasonable seeing as they have a plethora of options in the OF.

Now, as mentioned when we talked about this before the season..would LAD actually trade a fan fave like Kemp if he were to build some trade value? Questionable, but there was certainly a bunch of talk back then about trading him if he gathered enough interest..much to my skepticism at the time both in regards to the FO's willingness to pull the trigger and in fans' support of such. But if an opportunity to get a stud like Abreu in his prime is there, and he's on a decent contract from what I remember, very reasonable to consider the opp if it's there. Muncy, God bless him, he's been fun to watch, but I'd like Dozier's chances of handling 2B better than him. Just would because of the track record. I know that goes against all homerism, but to hell with homerism. Abreu could take 1B, spin Kemp off for arms, dump Belli or whomever in LF/CF, spin Ed Rios off for more arms, spin Muncy off for whatever, secure Dozier's defense @ 2B and hope his bat ignites. It just seems as if you're clinging to this group like they've won 3 championships in a row or something. I get the money side bothering you, though, so I'm with you there.

But yeah, Hairston threw a couple big names out to troll LAD fans, so granted, none of this is happening. Although, it probably has a better chance of happening than some Machado trade given who's running BMore. And bullpen talk is definitely boring..unless they're terrible, so I get why he maybe didn't go there. Of course, Friedman usually gets the bullpen up to speed as well, so is it even worth worrying about in general? Probably not. Other than the choker at closer, of course.

As stoked as I am about the team playing better, they have a lot of areas to address. They're delusional if they think this offense will compete in the post. They're counting on a lot going right. Yes, they lead the league in HRs and have a lot of high ceiling guys, but some of the high ceiling guys have a really low floor, too. I don't want to count on dumbass Bellinger, a 70-percent Turner, and Kemp (as good as he's been) as our middle of the order. Need someone else.

Kenley is ass. I don't care how many saves he's converting. Guys are comfortable against him in the box and making a lot of contact, weak or otherwise.

SP should be the last thing on their mind, imo. Just get 4 of the 11 guys you have healthy by October.

This is the era of the Super Team. We fell out of that category this offseason and don't have the resources to get back in that convo. We're gonna be an 88-90 win team that hopes to get hot in the post this season, and they'll hopefully get back into the super team pack next season.

If you are referring to Caleb he's only 21. Obviously needs a 3rd pitch but he was a little less wild than normal and didn't do real badly. Offense is getting cold which going into a Cubs series is more my concern. Gnats holding us to less than 10 runs is atrocious.

We won 4/5 this week and lead the NL in homers after mailing it in for the first month. Relax.

Turner needs to be Turner though at some point.
