?

If the Dodgers could acquire one player at the deadline, who would you prefer?

  1. Machado

    43.5%
  2. Front line starter (degrom, thor, et al)

    56.5%

    - Rosenthal is reporting the Brewers and Dodgers are both closest to deals with the O's for Machado and something could happen fairly quickly if one of the 3 teams "blink", but both are not willing to meet the current asking price. From the Brewers the O's are asking for #2 prospect Corbin Burnes and from the Dodgers they want a deal around either #12 Gavin Lux or #10 Dustin May(Both would probably be top 5 if they refreshed the list). The Dodgers have started to look at different options(probably trying to get the O's to hurry up) which was reported about last night. Rosenthal said the inclusion of any of these 3 guys probably will get things rolling pretty quickly.

    - Jim Duquette(O's GM's cousin) said this morning that he has heard that Will Smith's name has been prominent in negotiations (which is probably why the Dodgers are not willing to add more talent like Lux/May to the deal, IMO). From what he has heard from his sources (Ryan Spilborghs as well), the Diamondbacks are expected to sit back until this is closer to the finish line and are likely willing to sell the farm to nab Machado if it is looking like he is close to the Dodgers. Both have been told that the D'Backs are not gonna try to let him go to someone in the division. We shall see, their farm is shit.

Harold Reynolds made the point last night (I know) that with all of the shifts going on that those stat can be misleading. I'm not an expert but that seems to have some logic to it. It's not a great look however.

Eno Sarris had a piece about it the other day. I was going to read it, but got swamped. From what I have gathered since, the word is that the metrics are a little skewed and he has not been nearly as bad as they say. Also, it sounds like the O's place him very poorly.

From what I can tell, he's got below average range but good enough glove/feet work but the Dodgers are elite at positioning players which helps mitigate the range

report that Orioles want Gavin Lux as headliner (or Dustin May) which is a no brainer but I'm not sure that's entirely true tbh

They also keep saying that the O's are ready to deal him, like right now if they get what they want. The longer they hold out, the weaker the return gets and you risk him getting hurt.

wouldnt be surprised to see him traded after the ASG. Might be important to Baltimore to have him there for the ASG, and the Dodgers will be ready to pull the trigger to have him with them for their difficult post ASB stretch.

The more I have looked at the initial renderings and have read what the owner said, I bet this is just a half assed attempt to show good faith to the community before they ultimately move. It's a piss poor design that I would not be shocked to hear the league owners nix and they even admitted that they had to do things on the cheap which is a giant red flag. This things won't get done which is a damn shame as I want this and Oakland resolved so we can get on with expansion.

That would be really annoying. Just trade him now. Absolute no-brainier from the LAD perspective if Lux is the headliner.

There is a rumor that this is in the back of their minds since the game is being played in DC. By waiting til then, they are taking off 8% of the remaining games that he could play for a team and that should factor into the return on him.

The trade talk would also dominate the ASG and they would be asking him about it nonstop, not sure how that would look for the O's

Sure...the P-51 doesn't have the effect it did in the airwar then. Then the Japanese get their version of it, the Kikka, and who knows if we are talking about the trade deadline right now? Maybe something entirely different.
I was just using the ME262 analogy as a "secret weapon" we could use to get whatever heavy water we may need to go nuclear.

Lux is blocked no matter how you slice it. Also May might be top 5 prospect but the major league roster is chalked full of young arms in Behuler/Stripling/Urias, so deal from surplus and get a difference maker bat. I would even offer to sign him long term and then work out between him and Seager who is at SS and who is at 2b.

Yeah, I have a hard time believing that either of those guys are holding the deal up and the reaction from prospect hounds and huggers kinda reflects that. They may be holding this thing up as secondary pieces if there is someone bigger that is included that we are not hearing about(i.e. a Verdugo/Toles/Diaz/Alvarez).

If the price for Machado has really dropped from Verdugo/Alvarez to Lux/May then god damn... maybe dangle Verdugo/Alavarez for multiple Reds or A’s relievers? See if the Mets bite on DeGrom for them?...

Heyman chiming in now with Lux and May being the targets. Honestly, this much smoke and I have to believe they are closing in on a deal. For the same names to be getting leaked over and over(not super high caliber ones as well), I have to think that the clubs are closer to putting a deal together than people are leading on. Not saying that they will get a deal done, just that they could now be negotiating through a short list.

I think Machado in the middle of this line up would make it just as scary as the Yankee line up with Stanton. The only thing that might screw things is the rumor that the dbags are going to offer an over the top package to keep Machado from the Dodgers......man I hate the dbags
