If the Dodgers could acquire one player at the deadline, who would you prefer?

  1. Machado

    43.5%
  2. Front line starter (degrom, thor, et al)

    56.5%

He seems to be telling the truth from what I can tell. It is weird, him and Moriyama have a contact within the org that generally gives them inside info that they are not allowed to leak. Very weird, but maybe they were given permission here so that fans can cool down.

Nothing against Ozuna, who is cheaper had a great year in 2017. But he's not Stanton.

Stanton, Seager, Bellinger, Kershaw, and Turner would be a great core of domestic stars. Stanton and Turner even from LA.

I’d honestly like trade for Archer, re-sign Morrow, sign Wade Davis and every other good RHP so we can beat the Yankees in the WS

Going through the first of five stages of grief right now.

Will Stanton agree to this trade immediately?

The Dodgers were a game away from winning the World Series and acquired the best starting pitcher on the market at the trade deadline when they needed a SP bad. This assumption you make is just horribly off base.

Word is that he already agreed to it, they are just doing the medicals now. From the sounds of it, the Dodgers were never that interested and with the money only being $30M coming back, we can see why.

    have to admit
i was really flip-flopping on this one
at first i didn't want stanton
then i was like, "okay, i guess"
and then, "fuck yeah, let's get him!"
common mistake, i let emotions cloud my perspective
i was upset last night, but this morning i'm okay
no doubt stanton would/will help any offense -- but at what cost?
there's still no guarantee the yankees win next year or any of the next 10 years
glad we didn't get saddled with that ≈$30M a year for the next decade
not saying we'll ultimately pursue machado/harper/et al...
but at least we have the financial flexibility to do so if needed/wanted, especially w/most of agon/kazmir/mehcarthy coming off the books
and we still have the ability to add others now and/or at the deadline
had to look back at my prior posts for perspective, where i said...
"we don't need stanton... not as much as we need a starter and bullpen help/reinforcements"
    i still feel this way
especially since our right fielder (while not stanton) was pretty damn good himself
so, in no particular order, the priorities should now be...
    - get a starter (darvish/arrietta/other) x
    - get bullpen help (morrow, et al)
    - get a yellich/osuna type
if we do that, i'll be happy
stanton would have been nice, but would have truly been putting all our eggs in one basket

Until we win the World Series, I will never trust the Dodgers offense. They always end up shitting the bed

Ozuna's 2017 was fantastic and if he were to be nabbed, he'd be a HUGE upgrade to LF and the lineup. The only thing about him is his defense leaves a good bit to be desired. I would be interested to see what his numbers would look like with a team like the Dodgers that do such a good job at placing their fielders. I still think this will be a bit of a reach since he is going to require probably a hefty return in prospects.

I like both the PIT and Baltimore options with their expiring righty bats and relievers. Makes all the sense in the world for Baltimore to sell Machado now and why not in the same deal as Britton? PIT probably won't pay up for McCutchen either, they've had ages to get something done. Baltimore should be in super sell mode, Boston is way better and of course now NYY is ridiculous. They're done. LAD had every spec except Buehler available, so that's interesting. I think Alvarez was going to Baltimore for Britton before Baltimore's owner Angelos vetoed the deal. He David Stern'd us. Fuckin cocksucker

Absolutely...the truth shall set ye free. A hometown parlay PR opportunity totally wasted. Like no other...make Mannywood look pale in comparison.
If I knew how to do it, I would post the sound and visual byte of DeNiro saying (that was on Stern all the time)..." You ble-e-ew it!"

The Dodgers needed to break even in 2018 to have the flexibility to stay under the tax threshold, Miami essentially gave that to New York. As far as having a trade asset in Castro, the Dodgers could have cut out the middle man and given top prospects. I get it, it's clear the Dodgers weren't even close.

I'm just disappointed we weren't in at that price point. Again, we didn't have to beat New York, just be reasonable. We didn't go all in, so it's back to dinking and dunking... the Dodger way.

feels like when raines and vlad wanted to be Dodgers
except this guy is a bonafide superstar in his prime
and speaking of numbers i'm sure they must have considered an attendance spike
oh wait we don't need that, got it
i understand the downside of it but damn
they paid 2 billion for the team when it wasn't worth one
this would have sent a clear message we would do whatever it takes
yankees still are going to need pitching but i guess they'll land darvish now

I've been a backer of this FO, but IMO they overthought this. This was a slam dunk marketing opportunity and they balked, I don't think they care about attendance numbers.

Wait until Stanton and Judge start slamming homers off the facades in that tiny little bandbox the Yankees play in now.
Some clever hack will come up with a new handle for the modern day M&M boys...too bad.
    Coulda been Giancarlo and Cody...
    Coulda been contendahs...
