Boras said one team was offering a shorter term deal at $45M per.... That would fall in line with a rumor from the other day about where the Dodgers offer was at. I saw something about the club being around 5 at $230M. If it turns out that this was where the Dodgers were at, I am going to be incredibly frustrated.

This is what I don't get. IF the Dodgers were offering 5/$200, and Harper came back saying "no, I want 13/330" you say yeah, we'll do that instead. 13/330 is much more team friendly. It's much easier on the luxury tax and you get 8 more years of Harper. Sure, the last 4-5 years might be worthless, but there's a good chance he is more than serviceable for a few of those. And no opt-out? That doesn't make sense. I wonder if the 5/$200 rumor is not close to what the Dodgers actually offered.

 

Not saying that. Just that there was a rumor the other day that the Dodgers were around that number and Boras said that a team was in at that high AAV for Harper. Not saying that was for sure the Dodgers offer.

 

Morsoi just confirmed that the Dodgers never offered 10 years to Harper.

 

I have to think the rumor that Bryce wanted to be on the West Coast was way overblown too. Or Boras just worked him over. No one ever said Harper is a smart guy.

 

Will save a ton of money on tickets this year and maybe ditching that Spectrum subscription

I think it was really just the Phillies bidding against themselves all along. The fact that a Dodgers team with a pretty full OF already were hanging around at less than 10 years, a declining Giants club and a more than likely tapped out Padres org were the only teams said to be in on him towards the end was just Boras using the "west coast" threat to get them to up their offer. The Phil's were said to be at 12 years for weeks now and it was not until they offered the 13th today did he decide to do it.

 

If Harper was looking for security above all else, then I think it was okay for the Dodgers not to go that way.

I think the need for security is a window into Harper’s state of mind. He doesn’t want to have to prove himself every year, and doesn’t have to worry about injuries. He is set.

He had a meh year last season....I don’t think even Harper could tell whether that was a trend.

My prediction is that he’ll become one of those players that plays well a couple of years, and then sits long stretches of game due to “nagging injuries”.....you know, a tight hammy, some soreness in the shoulder, the flu....stuff like that.

 

So... you mean continue doing what he is doing?
