I dunno, man.... I think what we just saw through that window was Boras topping Stanton's total value and that's it. Harper just so happens to be the lucky recipient of the money that comes with it!

....and of course, all we get to do is justify and reason yet another non-signing by this latest group of greedy ass-holes that own our beloved Dodgers. If you really think about it, Fox was the only owner we had that continued to throw money at players throughout their tenure.

But the Fox tenure was horrible.

Stanton's deal included buying out 2 years of arbitration, I think, and Stanton didn't have the luxury of multiple teams bidding on him. Plus it has a 14th year team option that will never be picked up, but theoretically could put his deal over Harper's deal, and he had an opt-out. Not saying that Harper's number isn't impressive, and maybe he beat Stanton's guaranteed number, but the contract is not nearly as good or player friendly.

I wanted Harper on the potential of him to bounce back and put up the numbers we have seen in the past. I felt and still feel that his upside is/was worth the risk for a team like the Dodgers. By the end of that contract, I would not be shocked if his AAV is just not all that impactful. Yes, he makes the lineup and future outlook incredibly left handed heavy, but shit this could come back to hurt.

Hysterical that the Padres and Phillies got these guys because no one else gives a fuck they’re just happy to print money and laugh in our faces.........and I’ll still be watching all season

    exactly my thoughts
just to add its a huge burden to live up to a contract like that obviously and i think things will go south at the first signs he's not living up to it
i see him as an egotistical sour puss thats going to become a poster child for not doing another massive contract
not really sure he even gives a fuck about playing now that he's got that windfall but i guess time will tell
not at all upset we didn't sign him for 13 years geezus

I don't know why Washington didn't offer him the same contract Philadelphia did.

My attitude toward this season is pessimistic. Kershaw is headed for a 4 ERA, and the rest of the team is just a stale dynamic. Really wanted Harper. Not a WS team, but I’ll have fun watching.

They offered him $30M less, for 3 less years and $100M in deferrals that would have been paying him well into his 60's. I don't know if they had the money based on deferrals.

So this kinda brings up the Trout question. Phillies should have saved it’s ammo to bid for Trout. Now I doubt that they can get both Trout and Harper without going bankrupt.

Trout must be thinking there goes my chances to play at home.

I was just about to say that DiGiovanna is reporting the Dodgers were said to only be offering around a 3 or 4 year deal potentially. Boras says that the Dodgers offer was very strong.

So this from Pavlovic, take from it what you will, but he cites Cali taxes.
"I’m told Giants made a 12-year, $310 million offer to Bryce Harper. They were willing to go higher but would have had to go well over $330 million to get it done because of California taxes."

Yeah, west coast wasn't a thing.

In most scenarios, I would say it's good that the front office and ownership ignores the fan base. They have access to more information and generally know what's best for their business and on-field product. They're getting close to the line, though. At some point, entertainment and morale matters to the fanbase. This is a team that did not sell out a couple post season games last year. Fans are fatigued. I probably didn't watch more than 5 or 6 games in their entirety last season and will probably watch less this season. I cut my attendance at the stadium last year from 20 annually to 3-5 games. If it weren't for the spirit of bonding with my dad I would go to 0. I resent this franchise.

My goal was to just kick back and love this team but I resent them.
