Basically what he was saying is that there is a trade that some of the GM’s presume is close that would cause a bunch of other things to happen. Passan is usually more reliable than any others and he seemed pretty confident about this. Still nothing that has happened makes me think it was what he was talking about.

I think the Reds need starting pitching more than anything, and corner outfielders are easy to get, so Wood for Scooter as a base sounds good to me. I think puig’s In play also but I bet Puig hits 30+ home runs if he’s traded to Cincy

    Puig and Votto Lol
Puig is " disgruntled " about being platooned so those rumors are probably about to start flying in fast and furious

So we're gonna trade Puig to clear payroll to acquire others but we're interested in taking back "Gives Up Another" Homer Bailey to get prospects? Huh?

The only way I see MGT taking on Bailey is if the prospects that come back are going back out in a bigger trade for a guy like Kubler. That would mean that the Indians said "you get THAT guy and we have a deal". IMO that is the only way MGT trades for him. Looking at his contract Bailey is only under contract for next year and then a $5MM buy out in 2020. Who knows, maybe Honey can "fix" Bailey enough to be a long bullie guy.

Reports of a possibl Stripling for Cervelli swap. If that’s the trade on its own it’s a trade where we “lose value” but a deal we can make given that Ross doesn’t have a great spot on our team and Cervelli is a good answer at catcher

My gut initially was heck not, but thinking about it you are right. The pool to trade from would be Hill, Wood, Ryu, Maeda, Stripling, Stewart. Hill is not going anywhere cuz he is too old and Stewart is not going any where cuz he sucks, so we can cross them off that list. Of the other guys probably Stripling and Wood are the guys that I would be ok with losing and even though Stewart dominated in the first half, he sucks that much in the second. Plus Wood is 2 years younger.

Didn't even think about that. Smh Ward thought he got away.
There was a rumor or two about the Mets checking in on Puig or it said they would eventually check in, can't remember

If the Dodgers are willing to take Homer Bailey back in a deal, then that is sign that there may not be the payroll restrictions that have been reported. That is a bunch of worthless AAV to tie up (though his velo gives some hope that he could move to the pen) unless guys like Hill and/or Kemp are also in a deal. The Reds have a strong farm system and getting a guy like Vladimir Gutierrez(rumored) would be nothing to sneeze at either. Sounds like the club may not do a deal this week according to Friedman, but they are starting to get set in the direction they plan to go.

Rosenthal is now saying that is hearing that the Dodgers are not close on any deals right now. This would fit their M.O. in recent years of planting seeds at the meetings, returning to homebase and then wheeling and dealing with a full crew. It is annoying and boring, but it makes a hell of a lot of sense.
