I didn't do my homework on him, I just assumed he wasn't a star because he was drafted in later rounds. I get what you're saying though and I agree. I just don't agree with them making it into a huge story because a person's sexual preference doesn't define them.

    but it sells papers
they know everyone is going to have a take on it
and surely, inevitably, some narrow-minded idiot will say something stupid or ignorant
and that will sell more papers air time

I liked the sole ESPN comment... "like its a story just because someone hit an HR off of his curve"

    that DOES say it all

As for throwing the curve with 3 balls, I think the logic is fucked. Kershaw isn't relying on the curve for the strikeout, he is utilizing it.

Over two seasons, batters had gone 24-for-267 (.090) with 151 strikeouts and no walks against Public Enemy No. 1, as Vin Scully labeled Kershaw's curveball.

Nice. But he has struck out 461 batters over those two seasons so less than 1/3 came off of Uncle Charlie. In effect, the less he uses it the more effective it becomes. But the logic to me also indicates that throwing the curve with 3 balls increases the chances of a runner reaching base- it definitely increases the chance of a walk as the article indicates, but it also increases the chance of a ball in the dirt, passed ball, error situation in which the runner could reach base even with a swing and a miss. IMO Kershaw is smart to avoid the curve with a 3 ball count. He is much more likely to succeed in keeping the runner from reaching by throwing gas or the slider, much easier pitches to locate. So in short, WTF does this guy know?

and in reality WTF do any of us know?

I agree that CK utilizes his pitches quite nicely and as such HE KNOWS that he can't count on good old 'passed ball' AJ to keep an errant throw in front of him... so he throws heat instead... and it works.

I'm OK leaving CK to CK..

bone head writers have to write about something and they don't understand much other than random speculation so this sort of stat review is inevitable.

    carolinablues post

The point of the novels might not be the swashbuckling but to draw attention to the goings on in the USA at the time in light of forces greater pulling strings for the colonies to in one way or another come back home at some point in future.
If you trace "racism" here it's not racial but religious from start.
Irish, Italian, Mexican have lot in common religionwise both in the superficial and the occult.

But hey there is no war, nothing to protest about, we all in the same peaceful religion, etc...
    Similar happenings here in 1812.
    Like in 2012.
Lots of deals were made in 1812 and around that time.
the war of here ended in a deal so who won deal?
USA won stuff in the deal obviously.
But the other sides had to have gotten stuff too.

    Not metaphors history.
I don't remember much about the history of that war from school.
Maybe some people here remember back then.

It's kinda like how after ww2 US won in Europe but in reality what has happened.
And it's crept in here obviously.
So winning is kinda weird and maybe the story of the books deals with that.

What sucks with deals is that lawyers actually determines who wins.
They write the deals and safe away the deals and they interpret the deals so they know best how to find loopholes through the deals.
Lots of fine print nobody has time to read.

War of 1812 was more of a war of opportunism than anything. The biggest deal being impressment by the Brits which had been going on since the end of the revolutionary war. So we saw they were in a war with Napoleon and struck canada, well it's canada now. We burned the capital of York, modern day Toronto to the ground. Once the Brits were done with Napoleon they retaliated by burning DC to the ground.

In the end the biggest issue of impressment settled itself because the Brits were no longer at war with the French.

In a nutshell that's the war of 1812.
