seems you guys are up to the same point in Westworld that I am. Good. Amazing show so far. Pretty sure I would spend 40k a day doing nothing but fucking Evan Rachel Wood though.

Anyway. Back to The Night Of. We were a couple of episodes behind on that one, so I stayed away. All caught up now, and the last episode irritated me. spoilers ahead, and I'm not sure I know how to use the spoiler tool.

Like half the members on a non-Muslim, post 911 New York jury find him not guilty. History of violence, drug dealer, murder weapon, blood, semen, MUSLIM! Oh for fucks sake. I liked Naz, and even I find him guilty. Reasonable doubt, sure. But not enough that any sane person would let him walk. The evidence was overwhelming. I'm all for a happy ending, if you call his ending happy. But I wouldn't have been heartbroken if they threw away the key. I was expecting it. Anyway, that bugged me, seems so implausible.

Loved the ending with the cat though. Something about animals in movies Makes me go a big rubbery one.

Yeah, cat trotting across the screen was pure brilliance...said so much without a word.
    So good.
Evidence? Yeah, a lot...but you remember OJ right? Turned into the Mark Furman trial.
    Justice wearing that blindfold, still...

Im not actually watching the show, or any show for that matter. Too much work right now with the new job and trying to do stuff with the ranch.
Just commenting on how it sounds like there are LOST/Prestige style mystery to the show.

I get that but a couple characters have had multiple episodes of malfunction and they rehash diagnostics a bit much for me. I just think they are bit talky at times as well. Maybe knowing the plot of the movie has me expecting more but hey I'll still watch. Relax by the way.:D

All chill here buddy, enjoying the discourse.

The whole diagnostics side appeals to my interests more, as a geek engineer, and because I have a long time buddy who works for JPL/Caltech in the AI engineering area and we debate many aspects of cyborg ethical behaviors, or the lack thereof, almost weekly. The show does a great job of pushing some of those boundary's and making viewers think a bit deeper about implications of machine AI. For anyone who deals in software issue 'remnant code strings' are real issues.

Great TED Talk today on the AI governance topic... http://www.ted.com/talks/zeynep_tuf...re&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=tedspread

However having read the book and watched Yul Brynner I keep waiting for other shoes to fall too.

I really hope that Westworld doesn't turn into the convoluted mess that Lost became.

    blessing and a curse
    the anxiety is borderline intolerable...
but i'll take it over the stress free misery of watching other teams compete
every time i start feeling stressed out, i try to remind myself that we've got nothing to lose
    we're the underdogs
we weren't supposed to get by the nats
and we're [still] not expected to get by the cubs
    simple, right?...
then why the fuck can't i concentrate, eat, sleep, etc???

lol the best part is since losing her teaching job she's now a stripper

Iowa teacher who had sex with student tells Dr. Phil, "I’m the victim"
USA Today — 7 hours ago

DES MOINES — A substitute teacher accused of having sex with a 17-year-old high school student in Cedar Rapids claims the student seduced her.

Mary Beth Haglin was charged in July with sexual exploitation by a teacher. On Monday, she appeared on Dr. Phil, accusing the student of seducing her and sharing sexy photos with his friends.

“Many people see him as the victim and me as the perpetrator. From a psychological standpoint and from every other standpoint, I feel like I am the victim,” Haglin said on the Dr. Phil show, citing the student's intelligence and “elevated vocabulary” as part of the seduction.

Haglin pleaded not guilty to sexual exploitation by a school employee. Her trial is set to start on Nov. 14, although she has asked to move the trial out of Linn County due to pretrial publicity.

Cedar Rapids Community School District barred Haglin from teaching at district schools after an investigation, but through a miscommunication, she continued to work as an elementary substitute at the end of the 2015-2016 school year, the Associated Press reported.

In August, Washington High School principal Ralph Plagman was asked to resign after the district determined he had participated in an ineffective initial investigation into accusations about Haglin's conduct. A spokesperson for the Cedar Rapids Public School District did not respond to an email requesting comment.

On the show, Haglin claimed that the student repeatedly asked her to meet for lunch or coffee. She met the boy when she was a student teacher at Washington High School in Cedar Rapids. At the time, she was 23 and the student was 17.

She started chatting with the boy on Facebook and through text in September 2015, and the relationship became physical in October 2015, she said. On the show, she said she was vulnerable and confided in the student.

“One night after a particularly bad night with my boyfriend, we had gotten into a big fight, and the next day I looked at his message and thought, ‘I’m just going to respond.’”

Haglin admitted having sex daily with the student in her car at a public park, in his car, at his mother’s house and at his father’s house.

In Iowa, teachers are prohibited from having sexual contact with students, even if the student is 18. Teachers are prohibited from having sexual contact with former students for at least 30 days following graduation.

The student sent her sexy notes, and Haglin thought she could keep the nine-month relationship secret.

“Trust me, it’s not difficult to be a caring boyfriend. Especially to someone as magnificent as you,” the student texted Haglin, according to the show. She also said the student left her Post-it Notes with romantic messages.

She sent the student naked pictures, some graphic, which he shared with his friends.

“You have got to be dumber than a box of rocks to share naked pictures with a 17-year-old boy,” Dr. Phil McGraw said about halfway through the show.

Two students spotted the couple in her car in June, captured the scene on video and posted it on Twitter.

Haglin then told McGraw that she tried to get out of the relationship, but the student said he would “light a match and burn down (her) life.” Haglin said she was scared to leave the relationship.

Haglin was fired from her teaching position and now works as a stripper using the name “Bambi.”

McGraw offered Haglin help finding counseling and a new career besides stripping.

Stupid thing to do, no doubt. After graduating high school I coached for a short time at 18 years old (so I wasn't much older than the kids I was coaching), and I was taught that's pretty much the top of the list in things not to do. It's not even ok to put yourself in a position where you could be falsely accused of doing something.

That said, the kid doesn't sound like much of a victim in this situation. An immature prick? Yes. But he's 17, so that's to be expected. She's not a victim either, just dumb.

From that info i believe she is the victim.
    And dumb.
But a hell of a lot of victims are dumb.
It kind of goes hand in hand.
Victims/dumb sheep, need a shepherd to protect them from the predators/wily wolves.
Obviously the student was a cunning coyote.

At much less than 17 you can kill for the army, be tried as an adult in a murder or rape case... but in these situations the kid would have to abusively rape the teacher for the teacher to be considered the victim.

Hmm....what are the chances she's done this multiple times with different students?

And now she gets paid for it.

She was 23 and a student teacher, she was probably teaching for less than a year before this, so a decent chance this was her first time. Although, it didn't bode well for her future as a high school teacher. Writing the student on Facebook and via text was well beyond crossing the line even before anything else.

My favorite line from the article:
Yeah, Dr Phil, that's where she made her mistake :whyme: He's not wrong, but that's not really a thing that needs to be addressed.

    she's not a victim
she knew the consequences and took the risk
the only reason she's crying foul is because she got caught
and becoming a stripper after the fact demonstrates what type of attention she desires
