Alright, so I just went over the last 10 years of records for you motha fuckas. Basically I just used winning the world series (which i use as the best indicator for success) and tried to find if a correlation existed between success and winning against .500 teams during the year. First off, after doing the research I just wanted to say fuck the giants and the red sox and the cardinals. The numbers below:

Year, Regular Season Record, World series champion, record against .500+ teams, best team against .500+ teams

    2014 (88-74) Giants (27-31), Orioles (51-40)
    2013 (97-65) Red Sox (53-43), Red Sox
    2012 (94-68) Giants (44-42), Nationals (48-40)
    2011 (90-72) Cardinals (30-30), Red Sox/Rays (46-38)
    2010 (92-70) Giants (33-41), Rays (57-40)
    2009 (103-59) Yankees (52-35), Yankees
    2008 (92-70) Phillies (43-46), Rays (55-46)
    2007 (96-66) Red Sox (44-40), Angels (41-28)
    2006 (83-78) Cardinals (21-26), White Sox (44-36)
    2005 (99-63) White Sox (39-33), Cardinals (47-30)
    2004 (98-64) Red Sox (42-31), Cardinals (46-31)

So basically it comes out to,

World Series where team had winning record against .501+ teams - 6
World Series where team had losing record against .500- teams - 5

So this kinda supports the argument that regular season wins against .500+ teams do not necessarily help in the post season. Over the last 11 world series, the team with the best record against .500+ teams only won the world series twice--where both times each team also led the league in regular season wins. So basically, when youre in the post season I dont think record against .500 teams is necessarily a good indicator of playoff success. Regular season success, no doubt, playoff success, does not appear so. Oh and fuck the giants, red sox and cardinals

    Interesting.

What I also found interesting was:

    2014 Giants - only 58 games vs. teams +.500
    2011 Cards - only 60 games vs. teams +.500.
    2006 Cards - only 47 games vs. teams +.500.

So basically they made it to the playoffs beating up on chumps and then rose to the occasion in the post season. I assume the +.500 records were at the time of the game being played and not reflecting the final season record of the teams.

It doesn't matter. This team will fail until DDD is sent packing.

Geez, the answer is in front of your eyes and yet you refuse to see.

You do realize that out of the 11 season stats you provided, 6 out of those years had teams winning it all either being above 500 against. 500 teams or with the best record against against .500 teams. That's....SHOCKER....better than .500!!!!

Two more teams were either at .500 or within 3 games of .500.

Which to me says YOU HAVE CONSISTENTLY BEAT +.500 TEAMS!!! Do you guys not see?

Records reflect final season record of the teams they played
I dont think theres conclusive evidence one way or the other. Surely not within the last 10 years.
The average winning percent of all 11 championship teams was .518.
The average amount of games played against .500+ teams was 75
So the average record against .500+ teams for the teams that won the series over the last 11 seasons was 39-36.
    Std dev is .05
winning percentages of .418-.618 is considered normal (-2,2 z scores)
    Giants '10 z score = -1.44, Yankees '09 z score = 1.6
This shows how much variance is contained in the data. .05 is a lot when considering win % in the given sample sizes

And plus youve said it yourself, the 06/11 cards and '14 giants werent that great against 'good' teams during the year but still won the world series. That goes to show you that the post season doesn't care what you did in the regular season or who you beat. The #1 seed didn't win the most championships. Neither did the team who did the best against teams above .500. I think it may help, but as the data shows it doesnt really matter. Get in, have a chance. Play well, and you can win, as can any of the teams. But let me tell you what I do know for a fact

I dont give a fuck how you did in the regular season. But it is 100% fact that the team that wins the world series will have a .500+ winning percentage in the post season. Where it truly counts. That i will not argue with you. So yeah thats when it matters my nigga

I love how important you guys think it is to fire mattingly.

Last winter you were salivating at the idea of Joe Maddon taking this position before he ended up chicago, well guess who is better than both the cubs and the dodgers right now? Yup, the Rays.

I guarantee both chicago fans and dodgers fans would have blown a gasket if they were told kevin cash was going to call the shots for them.
