gonna be a lot of unhappy campers when they cut Ellis loose..and that should be soon enough. the sooner he's done with us, the sooner they can get over it.
not this year..however, our FO had designs on it being this year. you don't offer Russell Martin that kind of money to not catch your best pitcher. i actually think Ellis has a legit chance to be our next manager..Kershaw would still be able to suck from his teat everyday. Lol but yea, Ellis will not be catching Kershaw for the length of Kershaw's contract, so it's inevitable. Kershaw's gonna have to deal with it. it's almost a Derek Fisher situation..everybody likes and respects him, so he can't be benched..so he has to go at some point for everybody to move on.
McCarthy isn't a real Dback or Yankee. He's been a closet Dodger for years. In fact, that's why this thread was started a month before there was even a rumor he'd sign with the Dodgers, this was an obvious love connection from BMC's side for a long long time.
i didn't even know that McCarthy was working out with Kershaw last off-season. wonder if the DBacks knew..Lol
why would they cut him loose? The Padres asked for him and the Dodgers said no, that woulda been a great opportunity to lose his 3 mil commitment if they wanted it. He was a bad hitter for an everyday starter last year but he's fucking great as a backup for this year. At least our #2 option as a catcher you have some hope he's gonna put together some good at bats and what not. Not to mention, Grandal learning from A.J. is gonna be fucking great. Everyone raves about what A.J. does behind the scenes and Grandal is gonna have to learn from him and that's fantastic for the Dodgers moving forward to have their 26 year old catcher become better with game plans. It's a great situation to have him as our #2, especially cause of the wear and tear on catchers and injury risk. Unless you want a Drew Butera as our back up!
When McCarthy signed and had his interview, he said he felt he didn't have an identity with a team yet and that he wanted one. He pretty much said he's bounced around too much to get attached at a place and he felt this contract was a great chance for him to develop an identity as a Dodger, so that when it's all said and done people think of the Dodgers when they think of B-Mac He has significant injury risk, and it wouldn't be surprising if he got hurt in one of the year. But he's also good enough to put up 2 seasons that are worth way more then the 12 million a year he got.
If he doesn't get injured, there's a very good chance he puts up 4 good years. He's 31 (only 6 months older than Jon Lester), so he can easily perform for the full 4 years. The 4 years is mostly a risk because of his injury history, not his age. His upside is a lot higher than most people on here realize. He can be a legit #2 in most rotations. I honestly expect 4 great years on the mound, lots of great twitter posts, and a guy who is great in the clubhouse.
Awe dude I could only get a paragraph into that link before the nonsense began.. assigning metrics to such malarky as run expectations and preaching about run point values reeks of unwashed stat geeks trying to assign numbers to things where numbers simply do not apply. I tried to read more but when one states that the first two made up quotients are then multiplied of divided by another made up Fangraphs quotient then I have to pull back from the spout. No harm no foul but this article is an exemplary case of stat geek drool... even if the basic article premise was sound "Brandon needs to mix up his pitches more and stop relying on the sinker so much"
you fuckin' wit da Capn? Damn good thing you're hiding under that chair meathead... LOL. Seriously I can dig the portion of Saber stats that uses actual facts... however there are so many that don't. And the stat geeks over at Fangraphs seem to think that Saber stats don't make up enough crazy shit so they go even farther into the realm of ground balls/right side/on 3+ hops/ when pitcher looks to 2nd more than twice/after a curve ball when the catcher farts twice. You wanna believe that horse shit go ahead...
