seems to me the nerds want someone they can control (otherwise they probably would have gone after Maddon)
as much as i'd love someone like showalter, they'll probably hand it to someone who'll just be happy to have the job
wallach perhaps; certainly deserved, but... idk
but if they give the job to that roided up tanning bed freak kRapler (as was being rumored), then they might as well have extended DBB... oh, that's right, they did... HE declined
maybe we're all missing something here... :stirpot:

Pretty much says that they wanted him to stick around until they were finished cleaning house and once the house was clean they'd give him the boot. Heh Now they need to kick this shit into gear and deal these high priced platoon players with egos and turn to the Scheblers. Do that and a Ron Roenicke will do just fine.

I'm kinda indifferent on both ends about this. I don't mind that he's gone, but I don't think it's gonna have a huge effect, it could also go very wrong.

The extension part is weird. Either Don really wanted to leave, or the extension was a low ball with lots of stuff on it Don didn't like? Or, it's the front office doing Don a last favor to make him look better for a new job

I actually think he did a good job as far as what a manager can do I guess. I don't know off the top of my head a manager that without a doubt is a slam dunk better, since I only know of those that are worse (I admit though, even Joe Maddon I don't think is much better and think he's a product of other things rather than being better). To be honest, rather then a long search for someone, I would even be happy giving it to Roenicke, who I like.

But, if anything, this gives us some hope. Some hope a new manager can come and do some things. Maybe a manager that gives us a strategic advantage somehow, or that is a better manager for our younger players. Don was good for the older guys, but imagine (and I'm being cautiously optimistic) imagine there's really someone out there that can help Joc, Puig, and Seager?

Not surprising but the way it went down is...

    Hoping they retain Honeycutt.

Lol, they offered him a long term extension and HE turned it down, according to sources.

Yeah, probably another year or two tacked on with some of that stuff you're talking about. A weak offer. Or a weaker offer...he likely has a better deal lined up in Miami. That's what it looks like early on to me anyway...that the new FO wanted him to stick around and buy them more time to clean up the house. Having DBB took a lot of pressure off of them..they didn't have to take bad deals for the big ego guys because he could keep vets in line. It would seem as if they have to get rid of some of the overpaid vets now. Which is good, imo. Just get 40 man depth for them one way or another and turn the page already.

    Really?

I thought this and the recent Greinke stance were both quite predictable.

I'm delighted to see ole lefty righty lefty righty DBB move along though.

Cannot blame him one bit for this season at all but I am glad he's out. Get rid of all the McCourt personnel tbh

Pretty sure the extension thing is to help Don in the future.

I really liked Don as a person and don't think he was the worst manager by any stretch. I do think they'll hire someone great though, obviously.

Perhaps the extension didn't include a raise.

    That how I see it.

Either way. It's a beautiful day.

The Don to Miami thing is kinda funny to me cause if I was a manager that's the last freaking place I would want to go. I would think Don has done enough to set up a resume that makes him enticing for better jobs with a better team and ownership combo than whatever the hell is going on in Miami
