i know thats the general rule in this type of situation, but i dont think it applies when dealing with major market teams with championship and money generating pedigrees remember that bad stretch in the 90s when the lakers werent that good? what if lakers owner decided to sell the team since it had not won consistently in many years and all its stars had retired and the forum was no longer selling out? and lets speculate that a few weeks later after the team starts entertaining offers to sale that they go and sign a big fat douchy player who also happens to dominate the game with his combination of incredible power and surprising agility and athleticism for someone so big and fat after getting Shaq the Lakers could only go up in value, no matter how large and expensive that Shaq deal was because what the hell are you buying anyway? you are buying the Lakers and the Lakers are in LA and teams in LA need to win and to do that they need big time players so the Lakers need to sign these big time players when there is a need and an a superstar is available and any entity coming in to buy the Lakers is not going to be scared off by there being a large expensive contract on the books when that large expensive contract belongs to a dominant superstar player that the team needs because that is EXACTLY what a team like the Lakers is SUPPOSED to be doing and if that kind of line item on the teams payroll is the difference between you buying or not buying the team... then fuck you and the maybach you rode in on because you have no business owning the Los Angeles Lakers and all of you should feel the same way when it comes to the Dodgers if an owner is scared of the type of contract a player like Prince Fielder is going to receive then fuck him, you shouldnt want him peoples hate for mccourt and the desire to want him out should not cloud their judgement into believing that the Los Angeles Dodgers are anything less than the championship caliber organization Lakers are both the Lakers and the Dodgers have rich extensive historic pedigrees that tower over most others in their sport so why are some of you Dodgers fans so willing to take anything that comes our way no matter how much of a cheapskate he is... havent we had enough of that? if mccourt gives nedco the thumbs up to go after a fielder or a pujols as strange as that would be... you guys need to for once not see every move he makes as some evil thing how could landing prince fielder to hit next to matt kemp ever be considered anything but an awesome thing? no matter what your feelings for fielders attitude, salary, or ownership issues... getting prince fielder on our team would be something you all should be hoping for, wishing for, and celebrating for if it were to happen it would elevate our team in the now and into the next half decade in ways that have only existed on our team in spurts here and there over the decades that ive been alive we havent been able to have a consistent mix of dominant superstars players in their prime both hitting and pitching alongside a few other lesser stars or capable veterans as well as hot young rookies since maybe the 1970 or the early 80's we had some pretty nice offensive teams in the mike piazza era but our pitching was very weak no aces our best pitching staff consisted purely of #3 or #4 type pitchers our best pitcher was once odalis perez during this stretch... ouch piazza, mondesi, karros, zeile, all 4 of those guys went over 30 hr a few years beltre got in the mix sometimes too later on when zeile left kemp and fielder are 40 hr guys like piazza was ethier is more in the mondesi/karros/zeile group so we need a fourth guy and he can be a little less than an ethier because of how good kemp and fielder are i would think that sands, loney, or even rivera could be that fourth guy or two of them in a platoon situation could be a todd zeile or eric karros for this team now couple that with the other defensive moves and our cy young ace plus our dominant bullpen and you have a team who can challenge against most of the rest of the cream of the league
