like to see the Dodgers call their bluff and get it all documented. Dbags offer 160M and Tanaka says..." mmmk. i'm coming. " lol Dbags be like, " uhhhh, hey Dodgers...you guys still in? " " NOPE...we're gonna talk to Tampa about Price. "
I may be wrong but I think the bidding is all over, there will be no further 'driving up the price'. The clubs have made offers and Tanaka will choose. Whatever the bids are, they are.
It will be to our advantage if we are in the same ballpark as far as salary goes because Tanaka is on record preferring not only the west coast but with a Japanese local community. We will see but just get it over with please!
i think you may be wrong. i don't think there are a set number of bids a team gets...he just gets to negotiate a deal until the the deadline from what i understand. there was even talk about the Cubs upping their offer last night. the " bid " term gets used for the posting fee a lot, so there are mix ups.
i hope you're right though, Carolina. if the offers are set in stone and they're all 120M across the board, get that man fitted for LAD blue...just a matter of time.
Ty Youngfelt @TyYoungfelt 11h Hearing Dodgers unlikely to match Cubs offer, instead using geographical, team strength issues as selling points to bridge gap..
IMO it's always about location location location. Add to that the ballpark differences it should be a no-brainer.
Don't get this...you'll become a DBacks fan when you move to Phoenix? or you can see Tanaka pitch for them instead of us? And there's not much of a long side either way if he winds up in Wrigley is there?
It's that simple if the guy is a bit of a simpleton. Sad to say this, but the LAD team offers no recent history of winning it all in a quarter of a century. That, IMO, is not a strong point considering we have had MVP candidates, 2 CY awards/3ERA best in BB years from CK, HoF manager Joe Torre at the helm, near the top best ERA team wise perennially, mostly top pitching staffs, etc. Unless this guy (Tanaka) is reading some stuff about teams from 1955-1988 teams, and thinks that's the way it is now, how are we proven winners? Sure, we look great on paper, but we play the role year after year, of bridesmaids. Even when we win, we lose. Disheartening, but that's an old Dodger story, and backed up by results. Or lack of them. Same as it was pre '55 and same as post '88. But we do have good PR, and maybe the LA press and spin machine will make a difference. I hope so.
I agree that we have a tendency to overplay our prestige and history, but our top rival in the Tanaka sweepstakes is the Chicago Cubs. Obviously going to a proven winner is not all that important.
I still think the top rival in the sweepstakes is the Yankees. The Cubs offer is probably getting the press because they weren't expected to make a serious push, but ultimately if he decides to go with a non-West Coast team, why stop at Chicago when he can play in NY (and assuming they match the Cubs' offer)?
On the other hand, he can see how close we were last year and assuming he believes in his abilities, want to be the difference maker that puts us over the top.
yeh, i'm sorry...Tanaka doesn't give a shit about how the Dodgers haven't won it all since '88. it's about where the team is now. and where the team is now is the Vegas favorites to win the 2014 WS...2 games away from winning it all without a major contibuter in Kemp and with a Hanley that had broken ribs. Tanaka's agent is obviously Casey Close...so i'm gonna assume that Close has told him how close the Dodgers are...we're the closest to the title in this mix of teams. what is Tanaka gonna say?..." hey, the Yankees won it all in 2009...i like them better than the Dodgers "...no.
Of those mentioned, we were the only ones who went to the play offs. Looking into next year maybe the Yankees could make the playoffs. So logically we give him the best opportunity to win.
