There's a rumor about how it really happened... Ricky was getting his early stretching work on the mound this morning when CK showed up and they had this conversation: Ricky: Man, I already have some butterflies in my stomach. Tonight is gonna be huge. I hope I dont suck balls as the last 3 times CK: FUCK YOU DUDE. You have no balls to man up tonight. Step out of my mound. Ricky: but, but, but... CK: what's the problem spik? Didnt you heard me? GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY FUCKING MOUND. I'M PITCHING TONIGHT. after that, Nolasco was only seen crying inside of his locker...
I can't express how much I LOVE this move. Part of me would have been OK with losing yesterday just because of how awesome it would be to see Kershaw tonight. Since the call came today, I imagine they waited to see how Kershaw felt this morning. I think this call is 1% Mattingly, 4% Stan, and 95% Clayton fucking Kershaw. You said it exactly right, Ed. Aces close out series. Aces want the ball. Fuck, Koufax pitched on 2-days rest countless times. If anyone is against this, think about it from Atlanta's point of view - how do you think this news makes them feel? They are fucked.
tbs was saying that honeycutt, when asked about the possibility of kershaw starting tomorrow (tonight), apparently didn't like it saying something (and i'm paraphrasing on what i heard quickly) along the lines of... "he (kershaw) is our future, you don't want to jeopardize your future." i hope it works out and this all becomes moot but i'm staying on record that i don't like it __
lots of people have failed going on short rest. Kershaw is Kershaw though. I feel like he always knew he was gonna go on 3 days rest so it wasn't a last minute thing so maybe it's different. Just hope no duds from him now or later Ahhh so pumped though. If the offense kicks ass then we can just use the bullpen to save his arm a bit
A pitcher usually gets 4 full days a rest. In this situation, CK would get 3. Like Mouse said, I don't think robbing him of a day for the first time in 5 years will be a huge problem.
Think of it this way: the best pitcher in baseball is pitching for your team with a chance to close out the series at home. Too much is being made over an arbitrary amount of rest that is given to pitchers over a 162 game schedule. He will have 5 more starts after this, at the most. This is the time to go on short rest.
Best case scenario is actually having Nolasco on the mound with us winning. Pittsburgh losing today and winning at STL in game 5. Extra 3 days rest for all our players.
Fingers crossed that Ethier can go tonight. He was apparently moving around alright in the OF yesterday before the game. Being able to put him in the 7 hole would be fantastic.
I keep going back and forth as to whether I like. As someone else said, now that the decision has been made lets do this! Management obviously does NOT want to go back to Atlanta.
