i won't expect .290avg/832OPS either, but i'll take the occasional pop and the ability to score from 2B and go 1B to 3B. give me a bunch of guys that Mattingly doesn't have to pinch run for, replace for defensive reasons, etc. less decisions for Mattingly = better for us.
People were mad at his constantly declining stats. We were just frustrated and taking it out on the "J", yoga, and anything else we could at the time. In the end we don't really care about the J or yoga. I wonder if our history with him helps, hurts, or if it neither helps/hurts because our FO has changed so much.
Can't believe i'm saying this, but of all those that got QOs from other teams, he's probably the one i'd want most.
Good point. Having a catcher that we don't have to worry about taking out late in the game for offense, speed would be pretty nice like you said. Man, AJ was a huge liability. I remember when Mattingly kept AJ at 2nd one game, and then used a pinch runner when AJ could only get to 3rd on a single...Lol
Really? What I'll never forget is his public admission that he fucking dogged it and didn't prepare himself for the season properly. Thanks, Russ, now go fuck your momma.
Jenna is a pussy. He got caught up in the Hollywood lifestyle and thought he was better than he is. He was spending more time fucking has been c list actresses and poppin bottles than worrying about his job. Jenna, his mom and his horn blowing pops can all go fuck a moose ehh
That is because Catcher is by far our weakest position, at both the major league level and minor league level.
I'll be happy with the keeping the ball in front of him and pitch framing. If he hits, it is a bonus. Please get him Friedman.
Yeah lots of people talking about offense but man is Martin a huge upgrade defensively. Kershaw will probably say he wants AJ, then he'll pitch a game to Martin and say "ah shit Nevermind this dude actually gets my strikes called as strikes"
I think pitchers like Zack Greinke and Dan Haren would very much benefit with Martin behind the plate. Especially Greinke, because when he misses, it usually isn't by much.
What happened to the "weakness at catching position can be overlooked because of the rest of the lineup". Because when I went at AJ early in the season, people told me I was way off about complaining about him. And that we had more problems to worry about than AJ. "The AJ will be fine" is back...two guys that can't bat .200 and are really just passable with the D is OK? I don't get it. Although he was fine in the playoffs offensively, I'll give him that. I just think he needs not to be the No.1. I like him. IMO, Martin is the best thing available out there, and we've had players from places like OK, Cuba and Canada that get blinded by the LA light and Hollywood makes them giddy...it's not that rare. Not every player that we sign or comes up has the preparation and work ethic of the old pros that do. That was then , this is now for Martin. Some guys drive Italian sports cars really fast in the city, some fuck pop stars, some get involved with whatever. It doesn't matter I don't think , how he was back then to the new regime. Aren't numbers the only consideration now?
It's about putting the ego aside and doing what makes the team better. I love AJ, I think we all do to some degree because he's a leader and a likeable guy; but your starting catcher can't hit under .200 AND provide below average defense. Martin would be a huge upgrade. Snag him and McCarthy, then get a bullpen.
And even then, the argument usually turns into "he's a pussy", "fuck him", "yoga". I stand by my theory that he banged some of these guys girlfriends while he was here.
