 Or, they have already decided DBB is o-u-t and they want to remove Hillman first. Hillman has managing experience and would no doubt feel he is next in the pecking order. So, give him the ax - he probably wouldn't stay on if they brought in someone else anyway. I wonder if Lopes would stay on...
if they have already decided Mattingly is out then why not just kick him out, along with everyone else they want out? That's lame as shit to be toying around with it, making a joke out of it and a joke out of a guy who did good things for this team. I obviously want Mattingly to stay but more than that, I don't want the Dodgers to be associated with this McCourt level bullshit of "what the fuck are they doing?" type of stuff. Act like professional, normal humans.
i think they may be playing the passive/aggressive role giving him a minimal extension knowing he probably won't take it, and are now taking more steps so he wont
I think Mattingly already got his one year option, right? He's mad because he didn't get more. So, it may be up to him to decide whether he stays or not. So, yeah, they could be firing his bench to piss him off and push him out. If that's the case, it is pretty lame shit. Hardball at the next level.
I'm serious: None of those. Someone we don't really know of but they truly think is better. Only way I can justify it. Lopes/wallach is a lateral move big time. They are all part of the staff and if they don't like the way the players responded or acted with the current staff, than these guys aren't gonna be much better. This isn't a case of we needed to fire a manager cause of epic failures, one manager being hated and not agreeing with the rest of his staff, or anything like that. The staff was one cohesive unit, and I don't see how Wallach/Lopes would make the team any better. The rest of them are just big names who are just as archaic as Mattingly in their thinking on the field but much more archaic in their thinking off the field, which could lead to huge problems Mattingly didn't have about the personalities/egos/slumps. So yeah
leaving for work in a couple minutes fulling expecting mattingly to have resigned/been fired by the time i get there
They have to know Don won't stay on a 1 year deal again. He has a shit ton of leverage (other openings) and it seems like it was really hard to manage on a one year deal. A one year deal is bullshit: The Dodgers shouldn't need another year to figure out what Mattingly can, can't do. He's been the manager for 3 years with 3 different types of teams, and in the org for 6. Give him a 3-4 year extension or fire him. And who is to say that even with a 3-4 year deal you can't fire him, if you think it's worth, it's chump change.
yeah, and I personally think that's bullshit. What it seems to me is that Upper Management and Ned have a disagreement on what/who they want as a manager. Ned is fine with Don and wants him there (which Don probably knows and is why he was comfortable talking shit at the presser) but Kasten doesn't want Don. Figure it out. Or Kasten should fire Ned, making this team better
John Harper @NYDNHarper7m Person close to Kasten says Dodgers' issue with Mattingly is in-game decisions: "All he knows is what he learned from Joe (Torre).'' Ouch.
Well, it's true. And this is what we wanted Kasten and Co. to be upset about right? And if they are this upset then they'd find a guy who knows how to manage.... I hope
^THIS. that's what could very well be happening here. here's another theory though; maybe it's already official...maybe he's done and both he and management know it behind the scenes, so management gave him the opportunity to put up a strong front with the press? on one hand, future employers would probably think twice about hiring Mattingly if he's talks like that about ownership/front office to the press, but on the other hand, what if LAD's ownership/management vouches for him in the future when he's looking for other managing jobs? basically, what if they told him, " your done here, but we'll back you...go ahead and plead your case to the other teams that have jobs open and we can make it look like you just left for a better deal and we don't have to fire you "? a favor for a favor type of thing, saving a PR nightmare
Well Hillman is supposed to advise the manager on in game strategy, Hillman did it very very poorly, now he's gone. Now what?
Nice list of dinosaurs there Irish. I voted other. I have no clue who, and really don't give a fuck at the moment. Who ever it is I'm going bash the fuck out of him no matter what because I'm sick of this shit. This is a huge risk, this team was a winner...you don't fuck up a winner. Signed, bitterford
