didn't mean to imply it would be the same [price tag]
but i'm guessing they'll start by asking for at least one of seager/joc/urias
    but again, i don't want a 42 year old pitcher for 2015...

if they really are trying to move him, they won't be asking for Seager/Joc/Urias with any real intent. like you said, the message was sent loud and clear at the deadline..Seager/Joc/Urias aren't going anywhere. so it'd be a good way to waste the Dodgers' time, but that's about it.

i'm not really worried about Colon next year..although, i do think he could be solid for us in '15. 42yrs old or not, he's a fat freak and been effective for a long time. at worst, he'll be a co-#5 with Haren and if they hit the market and look to add another arm, like they did this past winter with Tanaka, we'll have a pretty good #4 since it's Scherzer/Lester/Shields leading the FA charge. if old man Colon gets injured and can't hold up next year..o'well, GuggenGods to the rescue again. like Blue said..we gotta be all in right now, so long as the price is right. worry about next year when the winter comes.

Wow...cruel age discrimination. Hurtful to the Old Ones. Tsk, tsk.
Just use him for the rest of the year, then when winter comes, put him out on the ice floes for Nanoo, the polar bears, like the Inuit do with the aged .
He will feed many, prehaps even the leopard seals will feast.
Seriously, if we don't go at it all this year, one way or the other, then '15 looks almost like a "rebuilding year" .If not '15 , then '16 for sure.

2016, certainly. but they'll be ready for it. Guerrero up, Arruba up, Seager up, Joc probably up by then, Urias as well..Kershaw, Ryu, maybe Greinke and Puig leading the way..we'll be fine. AGon and Kemp might also still be solid contributers at that point as well. continued progression by Dee as well. i'm not as afraid of the future as you seem to be. however, our manager situation is questionable.

question..if the Marlins put Stanton on the trade block this winter..Joc and Seager to be offered for his services?

I'll answer a question with a question, bad form I know...how many people will be in the stands in FL if Stanton goes?
    If they would ever, probably.
Puig, Kemp, Stanton in the OF is insane. Can get IFs everywhere, although maybe not the quality of Seager and his potential. We can live with it, just like we live with the worst catchers in MLB right now.
And a taint licked GM who has brought zero rings with his assemblages.
Extend Ned again!!! Whatever he wants!!

yep. like i've said for a while..if you've offered up 120M for an unproven Tanaka, you're probably willing to offer up 160M for a proven Scherzer or Lester. and in the event that they do go shopping for another impact starter, James Shields could probably be had for 70M or so on a shorter deal. if you're willing to take on Beckett and his 14M a couple seasons ago, you're probably willing to pony up 14M a year for Shields to solidify the 4 slot. that'd take a lot of pressure off Urias down the line..he could be the 5th guy and get some bullpen action in the post season just to kinda get his feet underneath him. it'd also take pressure off the front office in terms of what happens with Greinke and his opt out coming up.

do they even show up for Stanton? i mean they've always been weak in attendance + they did sell high on Cabrera and he was pretty darn good. i'm just asking this because MLB Network was talking about it earlier and Stanton's been griping about Miami's organization again. he may want out and why not make it a LA homecoming?

Puig moves to CF permanently in that set up, but of course i like it.

but where do you draw the line? you'd give up Seager and Joc, but what if they wanted Urias as well? what if the Dodgers gave up all 3 and then signed Lester or Scherzer to kinda make up for the loss of Urias ( even tho Urias is so much younger and has so many more years ahead of him..we think/hope..you know how pitching is)

it almost did and that was just from watching MLB network talk about it. now, imagine if MIA really did try to get a haul for Stanton this winter before he walks in a couple years

It would be pretty cool if Carl's hot streak could convince someone to take him before the 31st or maybe the offseason (although the longer we hold him, the more I fear he gets an injury)

Highly doubtful but still, it'd take away one of the two outfielders the Dodgers need to move.

I'd be okay with him sticking around if he continues to play well. Doesn't need to be great, but just to sweeten his tradeability.

Because he needs to be gone before next season.

    Ryu takes another step forward
    By Mark Saxon | ESPNLosAngeles.com -- 3 hours ago

PHOENIX – Hyun-Jin Ryu threw two simulated innings against Juan Uribe and Drew Butera and then spent some time practicing covering first base to test his strained buttock muscle. Afterward, the Dodgers said he is on track to be activated from the 15-day disabled list in the next four or five days.

“Everything seemed to go well,” Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. “I think everybody was happy with the way it looked. Tomorrow, if he bounces back good, we’ll make a decision. At this point, it’ll either be Sunday or Monday.”

The advantage of using Ryu on Monday is that the Dodgers wouldn’t need to make a roster move to get him on the roster, because rosters can expand beyond 25 players on Sept. 1. The disadvantage would be that Roberto Hernandez would have to pitch to the San Diego Padres, against whom he has a 4.09 ERA. Hernandez has a 1.19 ERA against the Washington Nationals, the team the Dodgers face Monday.

Ryu said through an interpreter Tuesday that he felt no pain and his shoulder "feels fine and my arm feels good.”

Uribe on target to return around Sunday
    By Ken Gurnick | MLB.com -- 3 hours ago

PHOENIX -- After serving as one of two designated hitters during left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu's simulated game, Juan Uribe ran the bases well enough Wednesday for Dodgers manager Don Mattingly to say the third baseman is on track to be activated from the disabled list on or around his Sunday date of eligibility.

Uribe has been on the DL since Aug. 16 with a strained right hamstring, the same injury that sidelined Uribe for five weeks in the middle of this season.

In Uribe's absence, Justin Turner has picked up most of the playing time at third base. Turner is having a remarkable offensive season for a role player. Since May 23, he has the highest batting average (.364) and the highest average with runners in scoring position (.420) in the Majors (min. 150 plate appearances).

Uribe, however, has augmented his Gold Glove-caliber defense with a .293 batting average, which would his highest since he hit .300 in 72 games as a rookie in 2001 with the Rockies.

Wait...I'm really out of it I guess...I though Ryu's injury was a pulled gluteus muscle? Shoulder? arm?
    Anyone? Anyone?
