Russell Martin is a fucking Blue Jay. Overpaid at 5 years, 82 million.
Jason Heyward traded to the St. Louis Cardinals. wonder if Friedman is just :friedman:

i knew he'd get that 5th year..didn't think anybody would go past 80M though..yikes. he got paid a lump sum and gets to go back to Canada..good for him.

Dodgers..we're likely on to Matt Wieters and maybe even Evan Gattis. at the very least, Wieters could be a better option than Martin was when free agency rolls around next year..a few years younger than Martin.

WoW. i like seeing Shelby Miller leave STL though. Braves needed a starter with ace-level stuff..other than Teheran of course. everybody else is coming off their 2nd TJ surgery, it seems..

Hey ward has a great makeup and is obviously very valuable. Miller was pretty bad but obviously has big upside.... Love the deal for the Cardinals

especially when you consider that Martinez is probably taking Miller's spot in the rotation

Son of ex-Braves GM Frank Wren has great reaction to Jason Heyward trade
By Mike Oz | Big League Stew -- 1 hour ago

Welcome to another chapter of the Wren family vs. the Atlanta Braves.

If you missed the previous installments: Frank Wren was fired as Braves GM in September, after the team didn't make the playoffs. The Braves also fired Frank's brother, a scout and assistant in the front office. On Friday, the Braves traded Kyle Wren, Frank's son, an eighth-round draft pick in 2013, who was their Single-A player of the year in 2014.

In a move that had nothing to do with the Wren clan, the Braves traded Jason Heyward to the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday, getting Shelby Miller in return to bolster their starting pitching. The trade makes great sense for the Cardinals, who need a right fielder after the death of Oscar Taveras and who have a pitching surplus.

For the Braves, though, the trade could go either way. Heyward is a free agent after 2015, so they're trying to get something for him now. Miller's a decent return, a 24-year-old who has started 62 games in two seasons with a 3.33 ERA. He's also under team control for four more seasons, which is probably most attractive. Still, Heyward was one of the Braves' best players in 2014, great in the outfield and well-liked. Trading a guy like that will always be second-guessed.

How do the Wrens figured in to this one? Well, Jordan Wren, another of Frank's sons, a 20-year-old who played baseball at Samford University last season, sent out this tweet shortly after the news broke:
It's short on words, but long on judgment. And really, it's a perfect next step in the Wren/Braves feud.

If you're not familiar, that picture of Kermit the Frog has become a popular meme the past few months. The meme means that someone (in this case the Braves) has done something stupid and Kermit is sipping his tea in quiet judgment. Often it comes with a tagline that says, "But that's none of my business, though."

So, to recap, Frank Wren's kid thinks the Braves messed up by trading Jason Heyward, which isn't an unpopular opinion. Even more than that, though, Jordan Wren has defended his family's honor against those mean ol' Braves — on Twitter, with a meme, because that's how 20-year-olds do things nowadays.

Thing to remember is that Heyward is a FA after this year and the Cards aren't well known for overpaying so it's a 1 year deal imo. Having said that it's a good deal for the Cards because they have a lot of pitching to deal.

Cards have a lot of money coming off the books.

They may not be spenders like we are, but they have money if they want to keep Jason.

Everyone got money nowadays but with his power numbers waning rapidly will they pay that much just for his defense? Remains to be seen.

A big contract for a 32 year old catcher when your team has a lot of holes? Doesn't look good on paper. At such a demanding position, he's going to start breaking down sooner than later and you'll be paying top bucks and getting diminished returns.

Man, these 2015 Dodger lineups are becoming decimted by all these guys going somewhere else....the guys that we were going to get, hands down. We suck.
Are there players available that we haven't heard of yet? Must be...NerdCo , with all the genius stuff within, must be working on something, right?
