This plan has Marlins written all over it.

It's sad, because this is the kind of plan that a team like the Pirates should jump on, but I don't know if they care at all.

San Diego is gonna be interesting. Obviously they made some huge leaps this year but I’m wondering how that team will do over a full 162

You can go down their list of players and almost every player either had a career year or was a rookie. And that doesn't hold up over 162... it actually didn't hold up over 60.

    They def have some questions
    • Will their pitching be able to hold up over a 162 game stretch?
    • That was Manny's best year of his career. He is in his prime years, so is on the verge of turning into a monster? Or does he revert to merely being just really fucking good. If last season was the new Manny, you could argue that the Padres have two of the top 5 players on the planet batting back to back. Something we thought we could say before Bellinger took a giant step backwards this year.
    • Jake Cronenworth was a breakout star, but only a somewhat decent prospect. Is he the guy we saw until Sept 1, after or somewhere in between?
    • The same can be said for Trent Grisham who started to see his power fade down the stretch.
    • Did Hosmer waste his every other year thing on a short season or does he FINALLY put up back to back good seasons?
    • Did the real Wil Myers finally show up after 8 years? Are we to believe that a guy that lingered in the mid to upper .700's for OPS for his career suddenly figured it out?
    • Something that was not good was their bullpen. They had way too much talent in there for them to be that bad again.
Like @BlueMouse said, the Padres had a number of career years that carried them. They have the talent to be incredibly good for sometime, but they could see a step back next year if players normalize.

San Diego reminds me a bit of the Braves 2 years ago. There are questions but lots of potential. I don't see them beating the Dodgers next season or even the season after that, barring injuries.

IF, and that is a big IF. This year was not an anomaly on the offensive side, their bullpen bounces back, Lamet and Clevinger come back healthy AND both Patino and Gore show up as the starters they are projected to be. They would pose a serious threat as soon as next year. That is a lot of IF's. Also... they still could pull off some impactful trades with the talent they have.

My Projected OD Lineup for Dodgers

    RF Mookie
    SS Seager
3B Turner (I think they will re-sign him on a short term deal)
    1B Muncy
    C Smith
    CF Bellinger
LF Taylor (I think we will trade Pollock now)
    2B Lux
    P

    Rotation
    Kershaw
    Price
    Gonsolin
    Urias
Buehler (Buehler's slow starts to the season is the reason for this.)

I don't think I've ever seen 5 healthy pitchers on OD, outside of the Giants. You could easily throw May and Gray into the predicted OD rotation, making it 7, and not be wrong.

This is it. The ceiling is there for the Padres, and if everything clicks they could win the division, maybe even run away with it. But the Dodgers have the same ceiling with a much much higher floor, and a lot more experience.

If everyone is healthy, yes. The Dodgers may also go to a 6 man rotation if baseball does expand rosters permanently as has been discussed.

Nothing wrong with solid. Just don't want to overpay for it.

If you saw his numbers without the name, you'd think a 1 year contract to pitch middle relief. The Dodgers paid a premium for Treinen based on his unreal 2018. Now, I just don't think that guy is ever coming back. $6-7M a year for 2 years? OK. 3 at $10M per, nah

Whoa, Kolton Wong had his option declined too! I think this is going to be a wild offseason. We could see a ton of movement. Other events happening
    • Goldschmidt had elbow surgery to remove bone spurs and is recovering well. He had a great season, but saw his power numbers continue to decline.
    • Former Dodger Sergio Romo had his option declined.
