    The guy's power is STUPID.

On SC it said that he has 7 HR this year over 450 feet. No TEAM has more than 5.

    Mind. Blown.

I'd see us passing on him if Pitt gives him a 14.1 million dollar qualifying offer. That is unless we sign Scherzer or Shields.

The Marlins are going to ask for too much from everyone and possibly price themselves out of the market.

I hope we can get him. Whatever happened in the past is history (NZ), and we need help at the catching position in the worst way since the bottom of the order are all automatic outs most of the time.

Martin most likely won't repeat what he's doing this year, but he'd be a huge upgrade at catcher over AJ/FedEx/Butera.

    I'd give him 2/25.

    :gah:

If he gets 10/yr he's overpriced. He's never going to have another season close to this year and in this ballpark his offensive numbers will nosedive.

Inflation or no, if I was a GM and his agent gave 3/36 as the asking price...I'd smile, shake his hand, and say 'good luck with that' as I walk away.

3/36 would probably be a steal, actually

We're paying Carl Crawford and Ethier a combined $38MM annually. I don't think this organization minds spending money.

Crawford had a contract prior to being a Dodger, that was what Tampa valued him at several years ago. Ethier's contract was truly a product of inflation, I'll give you that. It doesn't justify overpaying for an aging catcher.

    No.

But spending money foolishly is the least desirable alternative.

Martin isn't a foolish spend of money, he's a good catcher... Brian McCann got 5/85, 3/35ish would be fine

McCann had a better history than Martin, it's not even close. Averages 20+ dingers a year. And he's a little younger.

    From seasons 2012-Present:

    WAR: Martin - 9.5 McCann - 5.7
wRC+ (You'd think would favor McCann): Martin - 108 McCann - 98. For fun, AJ is at 99 in that same span lol.

If you're talking about homers, Martin has only hit 9 less than McCann since 2012.

My math says 11 more, 53 to 42, and that's nearly a whole season for Martin. Career, in one more year McCann has hit 75 more homers. Offensively Martin couldn't hold McCann's jock...present year excluded. Defensively Martin is superior.

You're not going to make me believe Martin is worth the numbers being thrown around. The only thing that makes it remotely justifiable is that the catcher market for next season is absolute crap. Don't get me wrong, I think Martin is a good player and I respect his ability behind the dish...he's just not worth that kind of money. If the Dodgers could get him for 2 years/16 or 17 million, then I could probably get behind that.
