Yeah, that seems like the most logical explanation.

If we go after him, we better not fucking overpay.

If we do, hopefully kasten knows this much. With Ned, I could get a million dollar deal to sit on the bench.

Only two reasons why this would make sense:

    1. Bills is being traded for a bat.
    2. Lilly's injust is far worse than has been said.

You missed one. Eo is being showcased and is being traded for a bat. Scary but could be true.

I hope that's not true. Dude has way more upside than Bills in a few years.

Dempster would be immediately be our second best starter if we got him.

What? I mean if you are going by only the 11 starts this year then I guess yeah sure but I'd rather evaluate the past years and more than that than 11 starts and Chad is without a doubt a better pitcher than Dempster. Better ERA, FIP, K/9, BB/9 throughout the past years and careers.

With Lilly down, he's arguably our 3rd best pitcher, but Capuno/Lilly/Eovaldi can have cases to be as good if not better than Dempster

In no way is he immediately our second best starter.

lol I didn't see this nickname, nice. On our cold streaks, we'd have Crapuano and Dumpster. Sounds about right

    Since he became a starter

    WAR:
    5.2 - 4.4
    3.7 - 3.1
    3.4 - 4.5
    2.8 - 2.1
    1.7 - 0.9
    16.8 Dempster - 15 Billingsley

    What?

You are using ONE stat, and it's fWar I'm assuming right? Same fWar that says Josh Lindblom has a -0.3 WAR?

Chad has a higher career K/9 than Dempster, a lower career BB/9 than Dempster, his career ERA is more than half a run lower than dempsters, his career FIP is half a run lower than Dempsters, his HR/9 is lower than Dempsters, Bills has a career lower WHIP than Dempster,

For comparisons sake, Bills worst year in terms of ERA (2011) he had an ERA of 4.21

    Dempsters CAREER ERA is 4.34

The last time Dempster had a lower FIP than Bills? 2006, when Bills was a rookie and only pitched 90 innings

    What?

Stop using career numbers, his numbers before he was moved to the rotation are irrelevant. Compare his and Bills' peripheral stats since 2008 and get back to me.

Please dont act like WAR is suddenly irrelevant because it contradicts your opinion though lol.

How are his career numbers irrelevant? He was a starter from 99-2003, a reliever from 04-07, and a starter since. From 1999-2003, his numbers as a starter still count. The innings he pitched as a reliever accounted for 12% of his total career innings, so most of the stats used come from his a starter, definitely making it able to make a case that his career numbers count.

I'm not saying WAR is irrelevant because it contradicts my opinion, I'm saying that you can't just compare players by who fWAR has with the highest WAR and say "That person is better". Cause like I said, fWAR has its flaws and you should never look at one stat only.

And even since 2008, Bills' FIP has been lower than Dempsters.

I think if you asked smart analysts, or every GM who they'd rather have, contract aside, they would all say Chad.. Even those who hate him the most, after look at stuff, would probably say Chad.

With that said, I mean I really wouldn't mind Dempster on the team over Harang and if Lilly's injury is serious I could see the reasoning behind getting Dempster and keeping Eovaldi in the minors in case of injury elsewhere you slot him in instead of being on a thin rope and having to see Fife/Ely

Just don't understand why said interest
