I think Uribe is into something... you just cant generate that much power naturally...

    +100

I think that part of the issue it that the punishment is still too low and it has no effect on the team other than losing a player for 50 games... and for the player itself is a "low risk/high reward" up to some point... think about the 2 cases: Manny and Braun...

Manny signed a huge contract with the Dodgers, got caught cheating, lost 50 games and then came back and kept cashing his checks... there's no contract void, games forfeited (NCAA style), salary reimbursement or records eliminated... sure his "legacy" is gone, but if he ran the risk of being caught, he probably didnt care about the legacy anyways...

Braun was caught (even though he won the appeal), kept his MVP and is now back playing on full contract...

Melky was EASILY on his way to a 5y/$60M contract the way he was playing... now he has to get beck next year probably on a minor league contract... but, wasnt the reward worth the risk???

Kirk Gibson thinks Melky Cabrera should’ve been suspended for a year
    August 16, 2012 By S. Evans 2 Comments

Arizona Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson thinks MLB should be taking a tougher stance on performance enhancing drugs. As it stands, a player is suspended 50 games for their first failed drug test, the penalty Melky Cabrera received yesterday. A 100 game suspension is the penalty for a second failed test. And a lifetime ban after a third failed test.

Gibson believes that the penalties should be harsher. Under Gibson’s plan, Cabrera would be facing a season-long suspension. And if he failed a second test, Cabrera would be banned for life.

“I don’t have an exact number,” Gibson said. “I think it should be a minimum of a year (for a first positive) and after that it should just be banned.”

In nine games against Gibson’s squad, Cabrera hit.462 with three doubles, two homers, eight runs scored and six RBIs and the Giants won 4 out of 9. And Gibson has not forgotten the impact the now tainted Cabrera had in those games.

“He’s had a huge impact against us,” Gibson said. “And then you go back to 2008 with the Manny thing. Huge impact. You compare like in the NCAA with Penn State. All those people are gone and Penn State is paying for it. Here it’s just tied to the individual. I think we need much stronger ramifications for that type of activity. It just absolutely cannot be tolerated.”

If MLB really wants to rid the game of PEDs, maybe they should do something like this. Because obviously what’s currently in place is not deterring players from cheating.

    here's an idea
how about if someone tests positive, their contract is voided
players association would never go for it, but if there was enough public outcry...

He should be fired if he's below .500 with that team.

that team??? what do they have??? Upton has sucked... Kennedy has sucked... Young has been injured... other than that, they are a bunch of crap... last year they overachieved, sort of like what the Orioles are doing this year... I'm not defending him, but the team is not good... tell me 1 position player you would trade from them straight up for our same position player... i can only think of Goldschmidt for out 1B hole, but nothing else over that...

I never understood why everyone was so high on them for this year having basically the same roster they had at the beginning of 2011, when everyone said they were a 4th place team...

They are 4th in the league in batting, 3rd in OPS, 6th in HR, 3rd in doubles, 5th in runs scored. They hit the ball.

To answer your question, saving intangibles and Dodger chemistry....
I would quite possibly trade Ethier for Upton in RF.
I'd trade Uribe/Kennedy/Hairston for Chris Johnson.
I wouldn't mind Aaron Hill playing second base for us (No offense to Mark).
That Jason Kubel guy is pretty good.
    Like you said, Goldschmidt.
Oh, and Miguel Montero over AJ Ellis....probably.

From the little I heard, I don't think they weren't pitching poorly all year. It seems like they hit a brick wall with their arms.

Every team has flaws, but this team is NOT a below .500 team. imo.

No problem accepting MOY award when you lead a surprise team to the playoffs, but accept some blame when you underachieve. The D-Bags shouldn't be below .500.

Vinny said: "can you imagine where the Giants would be if Lincecum was his usual self and Melky didn't take testosterone"?
    I'm so confused.

WTF? 50 games is no good but 162 games is satisfactory? It's somewhat arbitrary at that point, like comparing oranges to clementines. It smells of sour grapes... but keep comparing it to an organization covering up for a man knowingly molesting children for a decade, that's the ticket.

He's right. That's got to be tackled, just like the umpires out of control.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. First time, 100 games, loss of pay.
Second time, banned from BB for life on any level.
It will stop users like a brick in the face. Simple. Foolproof. Takes a commissioner with some balls. Fuck the union.
The temptation is too great...like Chris Rock says: "if you tell me I can take a shot now and then, and it will make me play better and earn millions and millions more in my career than I would if I didn't? Where the fuck do I sign up for it"?
Laws and rules only work for the law abiding and the rule obeyers....the penalty for breaking them is the thing.

I totally agree with your idea of the penalty. The only problem is the testing needs to be flawless, as in 99.99% acurate. I'm not sure it is at this time, but it's got to be close. i mean Braun's deal was a mistake in the handling of the test from what I understand, a loophole. If that test was 100% accurate, then well it must be damn good. Hate to see a gifted young guy like Kemp get a false positive or lose his career for eating/taking something that can be borderline or misconstrued as blantant cheating.

Anyway, the idea is to stop this shit dead in the water right fucking now. And this 50 game suspension or a multi-year 6 figure contract gamble is not working well enough.

Billy Buck would have been a HOFer had he not injured his knees
he had 28 SB's before blowing out his knee, and getting traded (for Rick Monday)
still ended up with over 2,700 hits
when I was a kid, he was my favorite player

me too. i remember how hard he used to chase balls down in left field when he first came up. dude would dive head first into foul territory if he thought he could make the catch. was all heart and could he hit.
