I remember being one of the few baseball fans that defended the Yankees back in the day. Everyone whined and bitched around the league about how much they spend and how unfair it is that their payroll is so big. What's unfair about having an owner that wants to do everything he possibly can to win? Blame your shitty ass owner for being cheap. We've been there with Frank Mccunt, and now we're on the opposite side. I am more than thankful for having the best ownership in sports right now. Love them. I'd rather be a fan of a team that spends a ton of money than be a fan of a team that has 2-3 players get busted for PEDs and Roids every year while not spending too much cash....cough, cough, Giants

I fucking love this, with more and more pitchers tying up their teams financially it should mean more FA's for the Dodgers to sign or at least look at.

King Felix would look awesome in between Kershaw and Greinke.

    This says it all....

In the 7 months since LAD's new ownership was approved, it has added about $650 million in contracts -- about what McCourt spent 2006-2011.

The Dodgers may well be blowing holes in the recent trend by teams to lock players up before they can hit free agency. Knowing we are out there might convince elite players to test the market and see if they can draw interest from us. We now have a top Korean player for the large Korean market in LA and over there.

I was one of those people who thought the Yanks had an unfair advantage because I sympathized with the small market teams but that was before the revamped revenue sharing. Now all the clubs get so much that they don't have that excuse that they had NO chance to sign guys, they just choose not to do so. Additionally, while it is true we traded for the 4 guys last year and inherited their contracts we didn't sign them to those amounts. We should only be blamed for Ryu/Puig and Zack (post McCrook).

I too bemoaned the evil empire...until I started seeing what the other owners were doing. Most of them were making money hand over fist and putting together a cheap team. Some owners were putting their money where their mouth was. You never hear people bitching about the Rays, Nats, and Marlins purposefully tanking to acquire first round picks and then getting serious.

I sincerely hope that Zach's bout with clinical depression is over...as he fought it in 2006. The only problem as I see it, is that he is white, and there are white people in LA that will expect him to win. The pressure may be overwhelming; similar to that on poor Adrian Gonzalez' shoulders with the indigenous Mexican pop.
The pressure will be huge on this newly signed Caucasian...I hope he doesn't go all wobbly.
He can probably afford to get good meds though.

The Dodgers are spending money and I don't have one problem with it... The Dodgers still need to play the games ... Every team has a chance to become better every offseason but there are some owners that just want to make there bank accounts bigger... The Cardinals don't have a monster TV deal too work with but they have the attendance and that is what some of these small market teams need to learn... If you build a winner the fans will come not unless u are the Rays. The Cardinals will have a payroll around 110 million and that is pretty fare... The Cardinals have been known for going after top free agents but they also depend on there minor league system...

small market teams will always have an uphill battle... that's never going to change... and you're absolutley right that some clubs, the Cardinals being one, have done a great job of rewarding a loyal fan base with great farm systems and well run but modest spending programs... the new agreement requires all owners to spend a high enough minimum that they have a chance to be competitive... maybe...

Most small market teams fail miserably or get lucky once or twice but to build a year over year solid program takes work.

That is the bottom line. Are/should owners keep the money for themselves as profit or should they use it for team improvement and stadium enhancements. We already had one owner who used the money for themselves and now we have one with a monster pile of available funds and they are using it for a better team and stadium. How can a person fault that. Baseball markets aren't equal in potential revenue and so if owners are in it for the best team possible then there will be inequality.

Yeah but those other guys are maybe not as sensitive as white Greinke.NOt on meds for clinical depression.
It's sounds like possibly a Germanic name...so what about the German -American pop of LA....will he fail them? Will there be uber pressure on der junge ?
Seriouly, I just don't want to hear/read some more spin bullshit about pressure because of ethnic LA makeup or some other preposterous reason if he comes off weak during the season. Like we did with Gonzo. Makes me nuts.
Just call it what it is...i.e. "his bat is slowing down and he is fatter now and is having trouble going to LF"...whatever. (in Gonzo's case).
Hopefully, it won't even come up.

I've been thinking about this, and I hope Greinke pitches well enough to opt out after 3 years and get more money in-terms of AAV.

So I was talking about what our odds were to win the World Series before the Greinke and Ryu signings, they were 12/1.

Today, we are at 17/2, tied with the Nats and Tigers for the best odds.

Bumping the minimum salary from 414,000 to 500,000 is not requiring other owners to spend enough to be competitive, sorry.

they can do whatever they want
but if they want support from the fans (attendance)
its up to them to invest in the product on the field
