You really think this front office is giving away a postseason roster spot out of "obligation to Ethier"? Come on, I strongly doubt that. Unless you really think Rob Segedin deserves his spot!
interesting but there was a spot or two for an addt'l reliever/bench player wonder who this eliminates from consideration... culberson, segedin, kiké [i wish], brock, other???
Considering the Red Sox and Cubs also have games that day, I think it's safe to assume we'll have the shitty time slot. I predict a noon PST game time.
Hopefully I'm wrong, but since our game is on the east coast, and will not be given priority over the Cubs game, a day game seems very possible. Maybe the Cubs will ask for an early day game slot because they're the Cubs.
2016 NLDS roster prediction: Kershaw Hill Maeda Urìas Jansen Blanton Dayton Baez Avilan Wood Fields Stripling Grandal Gonzalez Utley Seager Turner Kendrick Pederson Reddick Puig Toles Ethier Ruiz Culberson
That's probably my final prediction as well, with Fields being the one I'm least confident in since his spot could go different ways based off philosophy more then talent...could see them wanting another position player, another lefty pitcher, or a starter.
I'm pretty confident this is our 25 man roster... I'm shocked that Kikè now probably won't make it but it all of a sudden seems that's realistic. He's been horrible anyways.
This is my guess as well for the roster. I am also crossing my fingers that Maeda getting knocked around a bit lately (though for the most part he has done a tremendous job of limiting damage) is more due to pitching a lot against the same teams than him wearing down. Stuff has not looked exceptionally crisp, especially teams jumping on him early in the game.
Our team went with 11 pitchers last year and 12 pitchers the year before. In a 5 game series, 12 pitchers is definitely not a huge necessity, but I think we lean that way this year. 1) because we don't have that solid #4 guy and we have some minor health concerns with Hill and Kershaw, 2) we have decent versatility with our position players, and 3) the position player on the bubble is Kiké, who has been underwhelming lately.
Lineup vs RHP: Utley 2B Seager SS Turner 3B Gonzalez 1B Grandal C Reddick RF Pederson CF Toles LF Pitcher Lineup vs LHP: Kendrick 2B Seager SS Turner 3B Puig RF Gonzalez 1B Grandal C Toles LF Pederson CF Pitcher Of course a pipe dream but this is what I want
Rather have Puig batting leadoff and Kendrick 8th. Joc, Grandal, Turner, Gonzalez, and Seager need to just sack up and hit against LHP. They're capable of hitting lefties.
Segedin has nothing to do with it. Don't introduce variables. Ethier is 5 of 24 and hitting .208 having played in a whopping 16 games all year. What value does that contribute? Nearly none. Come up with some other reason why he's on the playoff roster.
The other options are underwhelming and haven't performed much better and don't have nearly the same amount of upside as Ethier does Segedin does have something to do with it, since he's one of the main options if you don't want Ethier.
They are ALL underwhelming we can agree. Segedin is hitting .233 v. Ethier's .203 but both are better than Kike's .190. However Ethier's body of work in 2016 is so minuscule and the results so poor that why would the FO say he's on the playoff roster ahead of time?
Eric Stephen @truebluela 56m56 minutes ago Adam Liberatore the latest Dodger LHP (Ryu, Wood) to undergo arthroscopic elbow debridement http://www.truebluela.com/2016/10/3/13158108/adam-liberatore-left-elbow-surgery-dodgers?utm_campaign=truebluela&utm_content=chorus&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter… ----------------------- We all knew something was up, this confirms it. Probably locks in Avilan as the second single-hitter type lefty reliever as well, Dayton being the first.
Roster is being announced... the highlights: 11 pitchers, 14 hitters No Alex Wood, but yes to Strip, Avilan, and Josh Fields Enrique not on roster :O. Barnes made it as well as Charlie The rest are typical: the main starters, the bullpen locks (Baez, Joe, Jansen, Grant), Urias is there, Ethier, Puig, Howie, and Ruiz
Don't get Barnes at all, unless he's for some kinda 2b/ OF plan that I don't get at all. You don't need him catcher back up in a series like this at all. Got Ruiz. Why have Culberson, then? Head scratcher... I think Fields looked really good last time out and got himself a spot.
