Dodgers sign six international free agents
    By Ken Gurnick | MLB.com -- 1 hour ago

DENVER -- The Dodgers confirmed six international signings effective Wednesday, headed by 16-year-old Venezuelan outfielder Romer Cuadrado for a reported $750,000.

The club also signed three teenagers from the Dominican Republic: 16-year-old outfielder Johan Calderon, 17-year-old outfielder Felix Osorio and 17-year-old shortstop Jefrey Souffront, as well as 17-year-old left-handed pitcher Leonardo Crawford from Nicaragua and 16-year-old first baseman Eric Meza from Mexico.

Also, right-handed pitcher Kameron Uter of Pace Academy, the 12th-round selection from last month's First-Year Player Draft, signed. The club has signed its top 18 picks and 31 of its 40 selections. That includes top pick Grant Holmes, who struck out five in two scoreless innings in his pro debut for the Rookie Level Arizona Dodgers on Wednesday.

In terms of international signings, id rather quantity over current quality. It's so hard to project these kids and most of these high priced signings don't work out. Hows medina doing, tirado? Sandoval?I think the dodgers have one of the best international (south America/central America) scouting so more players the better imo. Give me the next Urias kid that no org wants haha

Be nice to see Hanley just bite the bullet and go on the DL. Possibly get a chance to see what Guerrero can do...although they probably don't want him at SS.

Be nice to move our shit outfielders and put him in LF.

Quick Hits: Urias, Braves, Burnett, McCutchen

By Charlie Wilmoth [July 13, 2014 at 10:36pm CDT]
17-year-old Dodgers lefty Julio Urias wowed observers at the Futures Game, leading to chatter about the possibility that he could make his big-league debut as soon as next year,Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports writes. “This guy’s got the ability to pitch in the big leagues at 18,” says Dodgers scouting director Logan White. That doesn’t mean the Dodgers will promote Urias that soon — he’s currently at Class A+ Rancho Cucamonga, and he’s only pitched 52 1/3 innings because the Dodgers are concerned about overworking him. But his stuff (he can touch 97 MPH) and composure are impressive beyond his years.

Question: From what I've read about Urias, they talk about him not developing into an ace because of size-ability issues. He clearly has ace-type stuff, so my question is why does his size limit his potential if he can touch 97 and have a wicked curveball?

It is taking every ounce of strength in my body to not get overly excited about this kid. I flipped on in time for the Urias inning and as the announcer said "here's 17 year old..." my roommate happened to walk by and he asked if he heard that right. I told him a quick a bit about Julio and so he sat down to watch. His take was, "this kid is unreal". We may have something very special on our hands here folks.

Didn't they say the same thing about Pedro?

Really, if he ends up on the club and starts dominating, it won't matter what they said before.
