When you read that article and see Fernandez' numbers described as "dazzling", which I agree with, it makes you realize just how otherwordly Kershaw is...

J Gray, this Bud's for you...too bad you're on the team you are on.
You should be a big ugly guy on the LAD, too.
    Nice job, 16 Ks.

    just terrible

Wife of Padres' Solarte dies at 31
    ESPN.com news services

The wife of San Diego Padres third baseman Yangervis Solarte died Saturday of complications from cancer.

Yuliette Solarte died before Saturday's game in Colorado, Padres manager Andy Green confirmed. She was 31. Yangervis Solarte was scratched from Friday's game and flew to Florida to be with his wife and three daughters. Yangervis, who is from Venezuela, took to Twitter on Saturday night to express gratitude for the support he has received.

"Simply thank you for all your support. The truth is I have no word to describe this. We had a tough year but I know that she fought," Solarte posted in Spanish.

Solarte will be out indefinitely, but has informed the Padres he would like to return before the end of the season.

guess there really isn't a reason for him to think about baseball but it might be the one thing that can help him as well
not sure how you recover from something like that
just the emotions of the little girls alone is overwhelming to consider

I'd worry about any power pitcher throwing max effort sliders over a long period of time.

Either that or Conte administered it. Identical ideas from a practical perspective.

I would honestly be surprised if the club does enough to land Fernandez after this season. It is not that I don't think we have the pieces to get it done, I just don't think that Miami would ever be reasonable with their asking price. They would certainly ask for Urias, but he was considered an untouchable before he came up and proved to be worthy of the accolades. So then what? They'll probably ask for De Leon, Bellinger, 2 other top 15 spects AND high upside young arms. I think Bellinger is now in the realm of untouchable in the eyes of the club as his skill set is showing to be that of a high power, good avg/OBP and GG caliber D at 1B. The chance of them moving him at this point is close to zero with AGon showing his age already and no real other 1B waiting in the wings(unless they land Braun). I could see them offering Verdugo with a De Leon headliner, but I'm hard pressed to see them consider then adding a Calhoun, Alvarez or Buehler to that package and I'm sure that if the Marlins aren't getting a Urias or Bellinger, they are going to want De Leon, Verdugo, Calhoun, Alvarez and probably still a Buehler, Stewart, Sheffield or White. In which case I could see the FO walking away easily.

He is fielding a very good 1B.
Took him a while to drop all that extra muscle that was messing with his swing.
Same issues with Puig. Trying to come back from injury by getting buff in order to hit more jacks actually keeps them from honing in on heat above 94MPH and therefore have to play the guessing game against top speed pitches.

    You never "recover" actually.
Your life changes so much, the initial disbelief and numbness, brought about by grief, gets you from one point in time to the next. Passing at 31 is truly young, and he will have to face not being with her in her last days probably for the rest of his life. Unfortunately, that kind of situation can turn to emotional guilt. Not uncommon at all.
Each day can be an incredibly difficult climb, some times are worst than others...but you never really get over it.
The best thing to hope for it is that the pain is eventually compartmentalized, and you don't let yesterday completely ruin today.
All strength to him and his family.

Will be extra pissed if Bellinger is traded anywhere.
Was fine with Verdugo being dealt at the deadline because we have OF options moving forward.
Solid chance Bellinger opens next season as the #1 spec on the #1 farm, keep treating these #1 guys coming from the top farm the same, ride the wave, gonna look up in a few years and have a Yankee-esque young core 4 and chemistry matters.
Fat boy Fernandez hits the open market after 2018 anyway, if LAD wants him all they have to do is wait and bid on him as a FA.
I'm inclined to agree with you on all, Bellinger should be untouchable and after him I'd say Yadier Alvarez is the guy that's for sure not going anywhere..not including Julio obviously, we know he's not going anywhere except for up up up in LAD jersey sales over the next year.

That 2018 free agent class has a chance to be historic, huh? Open check books for Fernandez/Harper/Machado?

I could see the team putting Alvarez high on the pedestal, but not untouchable. There are still rumblings that his secondary stuff is not overwhelming which could lead him to a relief role. If a team offered a solid controllable player with Alvarez being the headliner, I could see the organization considering it. The only way he is untouchable is that the FO has seen something truly special with him and they believe he is a future #1, which is hard to tell from a guy still throwing in Lo-A with question marks about his stuff(Urius ?'s . I felt Verdugo was an untouchable early, but the absolute overwhelming number of solid OF'ers we are getting, I could understand moving him. I think the club is going to attempt to retain Reddick, so in 2017 you are looking at Reddick, Ethier, Puig, Pederson, Kendrick, Hernandez, Van Slyke, Thompson, Toles and Segedin under team control and capable of playing the OF. Not to mention they still have Bellinger, Johnson, Diaz and some lower level prospects that are making waves. So I agree and feel that he is probably a trade chip in the event that they can't find many takers for the other guys.
