Mixed feelings about the Yelich, Realmuto ( and others, whenever) laments...sure, they are entitled to bitch under the Bill of Rights, I guess. About being millionaires playing on a team that really...was it going to win the NLE anytime soon? Even with Stanton, Ozuna and Dee? But I guess they can bitch - it's every American's right to, isn't it?
But, if I'm the owner, or GM hired by the owner, I tell these guys who signed on the dotted line for real nice money to play this boy's game, " too bad. Moan all you want...pout, sulk, be depressed...whatever. You're staying here until I think it is time to move you. And I'll do whatever I think is best making trades with any player, whether you like it or not".
    Life sucks, then you die.
Join the fucking army. Be all you can be. Then after the complaining, go out to your positions and play ball.

    solid question/solution
the only objection from management might be the deferred payments
paying guys like carl, kemp, manny, wilson, kemp again, etc after the fact may have left a bad taste in their mouths (no homo)
they also might view it more arrogantly, like "that's the kind of shit mccourt (ned) used to do!"
    idk

It’s not deferred payments it’s paying 30% of the contract up front though

6/$120m, $30m yr one, $18 annually thereafter like you said -- but give him an opt out after year three (or even year two)

The Red Sox are out on Eric Hosmer, seemingly increasing San
Diego's chances. But if the Padres don't sign Hosmer, would they
consider a reunion with Adrian Gonzalez?

I think Hosmer would go back to KC before going to San Diego.

Mets are rumored but he wants to play close to home I hear as well. In NY he'll get plenty of run of course that run may not be there anymore.

I know the feeling on this board but you'd think he'd want to quit but here we go (drumroll)

So the assumption is we can pay him $30 million with only a $20 million tax hit, then we can trade him and none of that extra $10 million will carry over?

The only part I like about your idea is that we trade Darvish. Hopefully before the 2018 playoffs.

Ken Rosenthal wrote something about the Dodgers, I will link it, but I refuse to pay for what may amount to speculation.

    https://theathletic.com/190487/2017...-darvish-right-moment-for-d-backs-more-notes/

    Dustin Nosler responded as follows......
    Dustin Nosler‏@DustinNosler 16m16 minutes ago
Still think Yu Darvish coming back is a bit of a long shot. Rosenthal said the #Dodgers would either have to trade another contract or two or give Yu a longer deal to lower his AAV.

    Dustin Nosler‏@DustinNosler
Guessing the prime trade candidates would be Yasmani Grandal (proj. $7.7M) and Logan Forsythe ($8.5M). Dodgers could probably survive well enough, but it would eat into the depth a bit (depending on the rerun).
    -----------
I've made it known how I feel about trading Grandal, the problem with trading Forsythe and moving Taylor to 2B, is now you NEED an OF, can't go into the season with Joc/Toles(off an injury)/Kiké/Puig and eventually Verdugo as your outfield. If you have to give Darvish a $23-$25M AAV deal (if they go long-term to lower the number) that eats up all the flexibility gained.

Heard from rival exec that said Kipnis was among the most attainable second baseman available after Kinsler was traded. If Mets can’t pull together a deal when Indians seem motivated to move his salary, IMO it’s hard to see them making any trade at all.

    — Mets beat writer

It would not surprise me if the FO moved on this. Coming off a down year, higher upside than Forsythe could ever manage, controlled long term.
