giving away 'tells' is a mental issue
    a concentration issue
    a focus issue
Darvish isn't young enough to claim rookie nerves
so I'm not thinking that there's anything Honey is going to be able to 'fix'

Not to mention that most didn't want him back at all.. then the market slowed and with basically zero activity by the Dodgers, and boom they wanted him.

I myself would have been fine with adding him to the rotation but at a contract that made sense for the club. I'm not mad we didn't get him at all. Wish he would have ended up in Minnesota but fuck it. He can shit the bed for the cubs.

The last thing I saw on the TV screen in my room, when they came to get me and take me down to the CCU OR the other day, was the crawl on the bottom of the screen stating the Darvish/Cubs deal details.
Somehow, I knew that everything was in proper order, and I knew I would be alright. I must have been smiling, I guess...prompting the anesthesiologist to say I was the happiest guy he ever saw going under general anesthesia.
I would have explained it to him, but ran out of time.
    And the beat goes on...

I just don't understand why people still do backflips over Archer and say we should have to give up Buehler or Ruiz for him. He has been league average now for two seasons and it should not matter about him pitching in a tough division when he plays half his games in a pitcher friendly home ballpark. I would be ok with Verdugo headlining that deal since that is a position of strength for us, but Archer should not net a return better than the Quintana package by any accounts, so a huge no if it means a potential front line starter in Buehler or the superstar upside of a Ruiz.

So the craziest shit to come out of all of this is that the Cubs actually went back to Arrieta and offered him a deal similar to what they signed Darvish to, which he obviously turned down. Arrieta has been good, but his performance has steadily declined since his amazing 2015 and his IP has dropped 30 innings each of the last two seasons. He has been good in the playoffs, but not otherworldly by any means and he is going to be 32 before opening day. I really hope that Boras gets burned on this one as Arrieta appears to be a #3 going forward and not nearly the long term upside of a Darvish. With that said, I hope Boras is burned by this whole offseason and his clients start jumping ship...

I should add that the Cubs and Dodgers were the only teams rumored to be willing to go to 6 years for Darvish. All the other sides seemed to be stuck on 5 and those offers are said to be close in total dollars to what the Dodgers offered over 6 seasons.

There's an extra year of team control with Archer in that Quintana comparison, so they can indeed make the argument that they should get a tad more than the Sox got for Quintana. Personally, I give Archer a little extra cred for still being at least average while playing for that dumpster fire of an org. He could be worse..he could've been Sonny Gray/Gerrit Cole bad given the circumstances. Focus isn't always a given. Look at how many people turned their nose up at Verlander back at the deadline because he was just shittin around in DET, snoozing through the season, waiting for someone to free him. The second he hit the door, BOOM, he was back. Regardless of the numbers, Archer still has plus tools. That doesn't mean we need to give up Buehler or Ruiz, though. That's another matter..everybody just needs to embrace the fact that Buehler and Ruiz are the untouchables right now.

I hope Arrieta kills it on the market. The Cubs slow played that guy and he did a lot to resurrect their loser asses. I wouldn't be shocked if the Cubs offered Arrieta knowing he'd reject, but just to keep their relationship with Boras from crumbling a little bit, as Boras also reps Kris Bryant and Bryant is due soon enough.

It is basically half a season more control since Quintana was dealt last year and aside from one season, Quintana has been the better pitcher(that one season was a very slim margin). Also the whole thing about Archer being in a bad situation is imo, BS. The Rays were in the running until fairly late in the season and one thing people kept saying was that if Archer turned it on, they could really be scary... but he never turned it on and they faded down the stretch. I get that he has plus tools, but two average seasons in a row really draws skepticism from me as when he gets hit, he appears to get hit hard. Look, I would be happy with acquiring him, but when I see shit like "the Dodgers would have to headline a package around Buehler and Verdugo to get the Rays interested", I feel that is total bullshit and people are way overvaluing him.

    UPDATE:
So apparently the Twins and Rays discussed a deal that would be centered around Max Kepler within the last couple of weeks, but couldn't come together. The Twins writer says that the asking price is said to be ENORMOUS for Archer. Kepler seems like an interesting return and something similar to a Verdugo starting point, but there is no idea if Kepler was merely just a small piece or what.
