Yeah, I think if that happens it will be the same thing as the last time around. If he is back to OPS+ing in the 120's or more Matt Kemp, they'll probably elect to hold on to him and then make a deal in the offseason.

To be honest I hope he does rake. This line up just needs a strong rh bat to compliment the lfh bats.

Yeah, they get enough shit from LAD fans as it is..god forbid they trade a raking Kemp during the season and then the offense goes cold in the playoffs.

Also, your weight loss situation was a bit different. Or it seems that way, at least. It doesn't seem as if you picked up weight, lost it, picked it back up, lost it again, picked it up again, and then lost it again. My point, good chance that Kemp's added quite a bit of stress to his frame over the last few years with all the weight fluctuation. A frame that was already red flagged on his way out of LA. We shall see how it works out. My only real optimism is with LAD's ability to properly position their OF'ers defensively..that with that and planned rest thanks to the depth, that maybe they can squeeze 1 or 1.5 wins out of him. 1.5 wins out of Kemp and I'd call that a win for LAD

Will be interesting to see what happens with the Braun stuff.
Braun a former infielder and a better bat than Kemp..also looks like Milwaukee has plans to use Braun at 1B if they keep him
But Kemp's a guy that once wanted out of LA..once said Atlanta is the " first real baseball town " he's played in..shit like that's not easily forgotten or forgiven. Not by me, anyway.
Braun on the other hand has been angling to be a Dodger for a few years now.
So I have to wonder who appreciates the Dodgers more as well, truly, that is..not just in front of the cameras

    Insane.
And that's exactly how he looked too..like an egg. Lol
That was a definite shot at Uribe by Chiefs
Uribe had a little weight on him, but he also looked pretty solid, more so barrel-chested [no homo]

Another advantage Braun has is that he’s still sort of an MLB player and Kemp isn’t. Why would Milwaukee do this?

    Padres to sign A.J. Ellis
by Mark Polishuk | MLB Trade Rumors — 19 minutes ago

The Padres have signed catcher A.J. Ellis, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. The agreement is a minor league deal, according to MLB.com’s AJ Cassavell (all links to Twitter).

The longtime Dodgers catcher is returning to the NL West after spending the end of the 2016 campaign with the Phillies and 2017 with the Marlins. Ellis hit .210/.298/.371 with six homers over 163 plate appearances for Miami last season, working behind A.J. Realmuto. He’ll now look to serve as Austin Hedges’ backup with the Padres, as Ellis will compete with Rocky Gale, Rafael Lopez, and Luis Torrens for the job.

Padres manager Andy Green said earlier today that his team was still considering adding veteran catchers and shortstops on minor league deals to compete for jobs in spring camp, so the Ellis signing checks one box off the front office’s to-do list. Ellis has far more experience than his competition, so he could have a leg up on Gale and company given Ellis’ ability to serve as a mentor to San Diego’s many young pitchers.

Dodgers will reportedly attend Lincecum showcase
by Steve Adams | MLB Trade Rumors — 12 hours ago

More than 10 teams are set to attend Tim Lincecum’s showcase on Thursday, it seems. Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com and Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com respectively report that the Tigers, Twins and Orioles will have scouts in attendance (all Twitter links). Heyman adds another handful of clubs, listing the Rangers, Phillies, Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, Brewers, Padres and Braves as attendees (links to Twitter for the last three), in addition to the previously reported Giants. If anything, it’s perhaps more notable which clubs have elected not to attend the showcase, as there’s no real downside to at least taking a look and the showcase is shaping up to be reasonably well-attended. To that end, the New York Post’s Kevin Kernan wrote over the weekend that the Mets aren’t planning to have a scout in attendance.

    koehler...
    • “I’ve watched guys come (to the Dodgers) who have been successful starters in the Major Leagues and transition and become outstanding relievers. I’m not going to sit here and say I’m going to do what those guys did. Time will tell. But (the Dodgers) have a plan that has worked and feel I fit in that mold, so it definitely excites me. The Dodgers have a blueprint and have been successful with it. It was an easy sell. You have to come and realize that maybe the starting days are behind you. You have to accept that. That’s tough, but to me I just want to win.”

Kemp, whether he sucks or not, fat or trim, weak or strong of limb, hated and ridiculed, still commands more ink ( here, anyway...for sure), than any other Dodger player. And hasn't worn the uniform in years...he apparently is more interesting than the great first and second year players we have, breakouts or comebacks, HoF shoe-ins, etc., etc.
Amazing how the power of hatred rules the day, and what was initially sluffed off to basic insignificance and simply one of the most brilliant FO moves ever, sure has changed it's spots.
    ...and the beat goes on...

With Girardi losing his gig after NYY reached Game 7 of the ALCS, seems the stage is set for Doc Roberts to be the scapegoat if LAD falls short this year.
Wouldn't surprise me if Utley just walked right into the job, with all the inexperienced hirings that have been going on in recent years.
Either Utley, or perhaps Raul Ibanez - who's still around in the org

CKWG speculated that they'd take Kemp in order to get Yasmani and/or Ryu
    Which seems decent

I’m very pessimistic on Kemp ever playing a game for the Dodgers and if so, being a decent player, but I will say that the Dodgers are very good at defensive positioning so even though he is an awful defender, I have some faith that they can make him just look bad and not awful. Shit, they made Corey Seager rank above average on defensive metrics cause of how they positioned him.
