I wonder if @Rubricon would trade Kemp for Villar. Probably the closest anyone here has ever gotten to Sophie’s choice.

That's the hope that I have, plus a bit of a rebound in the offensive department. Shedding the weight should help close the gap to league average numbers as well, but I am not out here believing a GG is even close to the realm of possibility. People undervalue positioning, but it can make such a dramatic difference. Look at McCutchen for example over the last couple of seasons. His UZR/150 was horrific 2 years ago, so the team changed his positioning last season and it dropped from -23.2 to -5.4. Still below average, but that is the difference in winning and not winning at least a couple of games. FG has Kemp's UZR/150 in the -13's each of the last two seasons. Cut that in half and accompany it with a bump in production offensively due to the being in better shape(#'s closer to what he was doing early in the season rather than later) and you are looking at a 2+WAR player. That number ticks significantly higher if he does stay in shape and last seasons #'s reflect what he can do when he stays focused. This is not me saying that he is going to be the hero of old, but there are outliers that exist that should give some hope that Kemp could turn things around this season.

Camello reiterating that the Dodgers and Brewers are holding ongoing talks about a swap of Braun for Kemp. Still can't really wrap my mind around the idea of why they should do this.

Given that LAD has already shopped Puig this off-season, have to wonder if Milwaukee still has interest in Puig and would LAD pull the trigger on something a little bigger?
Something like Puig and Domingo Santana being added to the deal.
I guess in that scenario a cost controlled Santana would take LF, Bellinger perhaps takes RF, and Braun takes 1B.
Kemp, Yasmani, Puig, and Ryu to Milwaukee for Braun and Domingo Santana..LAD clears a solid amount of salary and perhaps offers Arrieta a reasonable 4 year deal.
Solid influx of talent for Milwaukee - LAD can sort of send a middle finger to the Cubs..Yelich/Cain/Puig becomes their OF..what they'd do with Kemp I don't know/don't care

Can we get Braun in the deal too?

Braun is better than Kemp. A safer short-term bet to be a middle-of-the-order bat.
With our depth, we could give Braun plenty of rest and it would also allow us to delay Verdugo's clock.
He's older and under contract for an additional year though, so it does seem risky. But how many times have aging vets killed us in the post? I like his bat.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the thought is to put Braun at 1B (he’s already talked about moving to 1B for the Brewers) and put Cody in the OF. Although Taylor did fine in CF, he’s still not as experienced a CF as Cody is and an outfield of Cody, Taylor, and Puig has a ridiculous amount of range.

I want to see Taylor at 2B, that makes our lineup much better.
    At least vs righties.

Problem is that Forsythe is a much better defender at 2B than taylor. Taylor is fast and has range but he isn’t nearly as sure handed and accurate as Forsythe

agree on forsythe being the better defender at 2b
but i think taylor's athleticism (and enthusiasm) made up for a lot of his inexperience in the outfield
and while cody played 26+ games in cf at rancho in 2015 he's played just 25 out there since
not saying he's not the better athlete or even the better choice out there
i just think taylor's contributions get underappreciated at times
plus (in a perfect world) cody plays 1b, and 1b only
he's the best 1b on the team and imo a potential gold glover
i'd almost rather put braun out there in lf
    idk

Imo, Cody has already proved he is the most competent and closest equal to the superb defense at 1b LAD fans have grown used to from Adrian Gonzalez.
Which means most likely, that ultimately, he won't be there.

    Exactly.
    Sometimes the nerds overthink... sometimes.
And it bites them in the ass.
They need to be secure in their decisions and not waver.
Analytics and analyzing is a fantastic tool because it allows you to find the issues that are causing the problem.
When something is not a problem it can lead you to scrutinize a mole on a supermodel.
You may alienate that supermodel or cause her undue anxiety to where she starts to cover up the mole with makeup that gives her dermatitis and leaves her worse for wear.
If you overuse this tool you go from being a superior analyst to an anal retentive boor with a superior anal cyst.
It reminds me of someone that I used to know.
And who I see once in a while when I brush my teeth.
Nerds need to check themselves before they lose their job to a bro.

im so transparent in a guarded world
that it makes me mysteriously cryptic in deed and word
i dont see the signs because im too busy explaining them
to others who dont even need to be reading them
maybe i just wanted to be the captain
so i pointed out the obvious
so i can get a star on my sleeve and on the brim of my cap, man
its cuz the mark of the least
is directly opposed to the mark of the beast
the first shall be last and the last shall be first
is the test you must pass to leave this universe
