So what's everyones taken on robots instead of umpires? I'm having a heated discussion at a bar in wyoming about this and well... These dudes are delusional.. Comparing nascar and soccer to the argument but yeah... What say you?

I personally think robots calling balls and strikes will kill the game..

 

Am I the only one having issues with threads loading/opening up? It keeps re directing me to the main home index on the majority of threads when I try to open them.

Is there any sport that actually uses robot umpire/referees? I don't think the idea would kill he game, but I think we're a long ways from anything like that. Before that we would implement technology to help umpires, like maybe pager devices that vibrate if a ball goes through the strike zone or if a player beats a throw to first. But ultimately a person would still make the call (and quickly). Instant replay was really the first step towards this. Do you think we are worse off or better for instant replay?

I've done a lot of competitive swimming, and even in a sport like that which is simple and straight forward, we have a referee and people manually keeping time on stop watches in case the touch pads fail (and I've never seen one fail).

fyi...an All Golf Weekend for the Codginator. Member-guest tourney Sat. & Sun., practice round Friday. An old friend invites me as his guest every year, not very prestigious, but a lot of fun and a good excuse to drink mass quantities of beer.
