good point. balance would be fucked. if they go after Lester balance still may end up being fucked in 2016 with Kershaw/Lester/Ryu/Urias and Greinke as the only righty ( if he stays). maybe they should go with McCarthy instead of Lester?

    to some degree, yes
but the phillies also chose to re-sign/extend guys like utley and ruiz into their late 30's instead of going younger
i understand and appreciate amaro showing loyalty to his guys, but from a baseball/business standpoint it was not the wisest course

Before we knock the Phillies and Yankees, we should win a WS first....they did.

    agreed
the phillies did what they had to do, going after both lee and halladay
and the yankees spent a shit ton of $$$ to get the best team money could buy
we're pretty much now the yankees... sans all the championship baggage

In no world should we go for McCarthy instead of Lester, especially when Scherzer and Shields are FA's.

The funny thing is that the Phillies won their championship BEFORE they got Lee and Halladay. Baseball is the best/worst.

Well stated...all this "we should do this and we should do that" and bring up this one and that one....and the endless fake lineups with all the FAs or "can't miss" trades in them....what the hell have they done or accomplished? We are the laughable ones after so much nothing, not the others.
Still watching everyone else play in October and go for the rings, and they sure aren't brass.
I wonder how all the best players there are in the game stop the best pitcher in the game from monumentally epic meltdowns, a proven epically bad GM, head scratching manager moves, and the worst BP out there from blowing it all up for us....again?

Scherzer and Shields will likely cost LAD draft picks and reports are saying the Dodgers aren't going that route

Which is why we should sign Lester. I'd honestly rather take my chances on Billingsley rather than sign McCarthy.

That's an awfully risky proposition. Billingsley just had his 2nd elbow surgery in two years. In fact I think that's just not smart. McCarthy all the way
