    agreed
hopefully he turns it around/gets more consistent and shuts all us doubters mouths
but until then -- especially after how good he was in 2011 -- he's going to be subject to criticism

Sorta Funny a first place team doing a salary dump of its hottest player as they win four in a row and they move into first place with a 3 game lead with him leading the way. Does sell high mean not sending as much money to the receiving team so we in part pay for him to hit home runs somewhere else? Isn't that a salary and home run dump.? Just wondering.

The thing is, NZ, we wouldn't be selling high. I bet his trade value is just marginally higher now than it was a couple of weeks ago. Not enough to cash-in on.

On the other hand, if he continues to play like this for the next two months and the post season, then he'd have higher value in the off season. Of course, why'd we want to trade him then, unless he sticks to his guns on the CF thing?

Matt Kemp is going to blow out a hammy next month, sit the rest of this year, and some poor bastard is going to be paying 20 mil a year for a defensive liability with a massively declining bat right into his mid 30's. Hopefully it's not us. 2011 has been and gone, it was fun but it isn't returning. lets not do an Ethier who has become entirely worthless. He is a decent chip in a package for someone who can really help this team. Send him to the AL whilst we still have a chance.

I dont see how forcing Ethier/Crawford combo into fulltime action helps us win the World Series this year.....

Would a David Price/Jon Lester help those world series chances though? Boston is screaming for some outfield power.

Don't take it so personally duuuuuuuuude (said in the obligatory stoner voice), if the "Price" is right, lets do this shit. If we can't get anything good, or I am overestimating how large of a chip he is to an AL side desperate for some pop, I have no problem with his and Dave Stewart's shining presence lurking for eternity in the organization. I just think he's done enough this week/year to lure in a couple of Nedish fish in the American League sea.

GG gives not a single shit about money... all of their vast coin is someone else's money anyways and they have soooooo damn much they could give a shiite about getting any back. Just win baby. (god I still hate the Raiders)

From a line up card perspective ole over priced Matty is still putting up better stats than ole overpriced fairy armed Carl or ole overpriced Andre. So go with what brung you and find a decent catcher not hitting .199 or another stout arm for cash rather than give up on Kemp.

Paying a thin dime to watch Kemp hit for another X years on someone else's club makes not a lick of sense. You may be right that no value shall be gained from adding Carl or Andre to a trade but that is a different topic altogether as they are the players less relevant to DBB's daily line up card and thus ultimately to our success.

(and I appreciate the obligatory voice just to keep things light)

Ned Colletti: Matt Kemp not on table
    Updated: July 31, 2014, 2:23 AM ET
    By Mark Saxon | ESPNLosAngeles.com

LOS ANGELES -- Matt Kemp will be wearing a Los Angeles Dodgers uniform after Thursday afternoon's trade deadline, general manager Ned Colletti said.

Kemp has been the subject of trade rumors since the winter meetings, rumors that heated up after his agent remarked that a change of scenery might be in his client's best interests after Kemp was moved out of center field. The rumors died down recently, with Kemp batting .397 in 18 games through Wednesday night. Kemp hit a home run off Alex Wood in the second inning Wednesday, his third home run in the past two games, and singled in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Dodgers beat the Atlanta Braves 3-2.

"Nobody's heard me say we're trading Matt Kemp," Colletti said. "Nobody's heard me say we're shopping Matt Kemp. Nobody's heard me say that. That's all in another world."

Colletti's focus is entirely on pitching, he said, with the trade deadline rapidly approaching at 4 p.m. ET Thursday. Colletti further narrowed his focus to starting pitching, saying that right now he doesn't "see anybody out there" on the relief market, but adding, "When the sun comes up, the world changes sometimes, so we'll see."

Colletti said he's not inclined to trade any of the Dodgers' three top prospects: center fielder Joc Pederson, shortstop Corey Seager or left-handed pitcher Julio Urias. It might take at least one of those three and more to land the top starting pitcher widely viewed as available, the Boston Red Sox's Jon Lester, who is a free agent following this season.

"At this point in time, we're not in the market to trade any of the three, period," Colletti said. "There's been no player that we've discussed that warrants two of the three, three of the three. Otherwise, we'd be having a different meeting right now."

Colletti reiterated his willingness to go the rest of the season with his current 25-man roster. The Dodgers are riding their first five-game winning streak of the season and have the best record in the National League.

"It's not like our needs are excessive," Colletti said. "We're trying to take it from 'good' to 'great,' perhaps. It's not like we've got many holes to fill and an abundance of different options or matches."
